Obituary of Dr. Clayburn C. Booth, MD
Dr. Clayburn Carter Booth, MD age 89 of Wilson, died Wednesday February 14, 2018 in Mt. St. Mary's Hospital in Lewiston, after being stricken at his residence.
Dr. Booth was born May 17, 1928 in Jamaica, Queens, NY, the son of the late William and Mabel (Edwards) Booth. He was a graduate of Jamaica High School and the City College of New York. Dr. Booth was an U.S. Army Veteran of WW II and Korea. Most of his Korean War service was in Germany and he was the recipient of the Army of Occupation Medal Germany. After his discharge Dr. Booth returned to Germany where he received his Master’s, PhD, and MD degrees from The University of Heidelberg. He married Grete (Kapust) Booth in Germany on October 8, 1953 and they came to Niagara Falls, NY in 1957. Grete predeceased him in 1999. Dr. Booth eventually opened a private practice and served on the staff of Mt. St. Mary’s Hospital in Niagara Falls and Lewiston as well as on the staff of Niagara Falls Memorial Medical Center. He served the residents of Niagara County as a family physician for over 50 years.
He was one of the original founders of the American Academy of Family Practice Physicians Chapter in Niagara Falls. He served on numerous boards, Northpoint Council, Mt. St. Mary’s Hospital Foundation, HANCI and other civic organizations. Dr. Booth was a former Vestryman and member of St. Stephen’s Episcopal Church in Niagara Falls, and a former member of St. Paul’s Episcopal Church in Lewiston. He will be remembered by his colleagues and patients for his work ethic and devotion which were second to none.
He is survived by his wife, Bonnie (Kudela) Booth whom he married on December 1, 2000; and several nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by two brothers, William H. and Shelton Booth.
Friends may call at HARDISON FUNERAL HOME, N. Fourth & Ridge Streets, Lewiston on Saturday from 2 - 6 pm and Sunday from 2 - 6 pm. Funeral Services will be held Monday, February 19, at 11:00 AM in St. Paul's Episcopal Church, 400 Ridge St., Lewiston, with the Rev. Isaac Ihiasota officiating. Burial with Military Honors will follow in Riverdale Cemetery, Lewiston. In lieu of flowers, Memorials may be made to Mt. St. Mary’s Hospital Foundation, 5300 Military Rd., Lewiston, NY 14092, the Niagara Falls Memorial Medical Center Foundation, 620 Tenth St., Niagara Falls, NY 14302, or to a charity of one’s choice.
