About

Proudly Serving Niagara County Since 1921

From humbled beginnings the Hardison Funeral Homes, Inc. has always strived to be a pillar to the various surrounding communities of Niagara County. Providing not only the highest quality of funeral and cremation services, but also doing the utmost to be a friend, confidant, and supporter to these communities.

Our History

Dayton E. Hardison

Dayton's life story is one of dedication, compassion, and deep connection to his community. At the young age of 14, he took his first steps into the funeral profession by digging graves by hand at North Ridge Cemetery in Cambria, NY. This humble beginning sparked a lifelong commitment to serving others during their most vulnerable moments.

Eager to further his expertise, Dayton attended the Simmons Institute of Funeral Service in Syracuse, NY. After graduating, he returned to his hometown of Ransomville, NY, where he pursued his vision of creating a funeral home dedicated to providing heartfelt care. In 1921, Hardison Funeral Homes opened its doors, initially operating out of the original Hardison family home located about 3/4 of a mile north of its present site on Ransomville Road. This dual-purpose home became a hub of activity, where Dayton and his wife, Mabel, not only ran their business but also raised their young family.

Recognizing the need for a more dedicated space, the family and the business eventually moved to its current location at 3648 Ransomville Road. Here, Dayton and Mabel continued to nurture both their family and the funeral home, remaining steadfast pillars of the community until their passings in 1970 and 1982, respectively.

Dayton's approach to his work was defined by an unwavering commitment to compassion, personal attention, and understanding. Known as a friendly consultant and trusted advisor, he became a source of comfort for many families. His legacy of empathy and dedication was passed down to his sons, Gerald and Denton, who later joined him in operating the firm, ensuring that the values Dayton cherished would endure.

Denton E. Hardison

Denton Hardison's story is one of leadership, dedication, and commitment to preserving his family's legacy while continuing to serve the surrounding communities with excellence. After graduating from the Simmons Institute of Funeral Service in June 1949, he immersed himself in the family business alongside his father, Dayton, and brother, Gerald. Together, they upheld the highest standards of service, ensuring families received compassionate care during difficult times.

As Denton stepped into his father's role as owner of Hardison Funeral Home, he demonstrated a vision for growth and innovation. In 1957, he successfully expanded the business by establishing a second location in the historic town of Lewiston, NY. This marked a significant milestone for the firm, broadening its reach and deepening its ties within the community. By the 1960s, Denton struck a strategic partnership with the Ingram family, resulting in the creation of Hardison-Ingram Funeral Home in Niagara Falls, NY. This collaboration highlighted his ability to forge meaningful connections and adapt to the needs of an evolving industry.

Denton became the steadfast face of Hardison Funeral Homes, Inc., guiding the firm through decades of change while maintaining its core values of empathy and quality service. In 1992, he entrusted the legacy to his son Bradley, ensuring the family tradition would continue under a new generation. Though Denton officially stepped down, his influence and dedication remained integral to the firm, serving as a guiding presence until his passing in 2015.

Through his leadership and commitment, Denton not only preserved his family's heritage but also left an indelible mark on the communities he served. His story stands as a testament to the power of family, resilience, and the importance of serving others with dignity and care.

Gerald A. Hardison

Gerald Hardison's life reflects a profound dedication to service, family, and community. Like many young men of his time, Gerald temporarily stepped away from the family business to answer the call of duty, serving in the United States Navy from 1943 to 1946. During his service, he played a role in both the Pacific and European theaters, including the historic invasion of Normandy, a testament to his courage and commitment.

After the war, Gerald transitioned from serving his country to serving his community. In August 1951, he graduated from the Simmons School of Embalming and Mortuary Science, fully prepared to join the family firm alongside his father, Dayton, and younger brother, Denton. Together, they continued to uphold the Hardison family's legacy of compassionate care, offering high-quality funeral services to Niagara County.

For an impressive 38 years, Gerald worked as a Licensed Funeral Director, playing a key role in running the family business. His dedication and skill became synonymous with the Hardison name, further strengthening the firm's reputation as a trusted presence in the community.

Gerald retired in 1989, leaving behind a legacy of professionalism and empathy. He embraced his retirement years, enjoying life and cherishing the bonds he'd built over the decades. Gerald's journey came to a close in April 2000, but his contributions to both his family and the communities he served remain an enduring part of the Hardison story.

Bradley D. Hardison

Bradley "Brad" Hardison embodied the essence of tradition, service, and family dedication, playing a pivotal role in upholding the legacy of Hardison Funeral Homes. After graduating from Hudson Valley Community College in 1975 with a degree in Mortuary Science, Brad returned to Ransomville, NY, to join the family firm. Working alongside his father, Denton, and uncle, Gerald, he embraced the values instilled by his predecessors, dedicating himself to serving the Niagara County communities with professionalism and care.

In 1992, Brad took on the mantle of leadership as owner of Hardison Funeral Homes, Inc., becoming the third generation to guide the firm. Under his stewardship, the Hardison Legacy, established two generations earlier, continued to thrive. Brad was not only committed to providing the highest standard of funeral services but also deeply passionate about being a trusted steward for the communities the firm served. Known affectionately as "Brad" by those he helped, he earned the respect and gratitude of countless families through his empathetic approach and unwavering dedication.

Brad's unexpected passing in November 2023 marked a profound loss for his family and the wider community he cherished. Yet, his legacy remained strong. In January 2024, inspired by the family's enduring commitment and passion, his eldest son, Evan B. Hardison, took on the responsibility of carrying forward the proud traditions of Hardison Funeral Homes. As the fourth generation to lead the firm, Evan honors the legacy forged by his great-grandfather, grandfather, and father, continuing the Hardison family's remarkable journey of service in Niagara County.

Brad's life serves as a testament to the enduring power of family values, dedication to community, and the lasting impact of compassionate care.

The Hardison Funeral Homes owners and their families have established a reputation for exceptional funeral services and unwavering dedication to the communities of Niagara County. Beyond their professional roles, they have actively engaged in community life, participating in events like the Ransomville Flag Day Parade and contributing to various organizations, including Kiwanis, Rotary, and local churches such as St. Peter’s R.C. Church and Ransomville United Methodist Church. Their involvement spans across charitable, civic, and religious groups, reflecting their commitment to strengthening community bonds. Additionally, the Hardison family has maintained a strong focus on honoring veterans of all branches of the U.S. Armed Services, underscoring their deep respect and appreciation for those who have served the nation.
