Donald E. Taylor was born in Utah and moved to San Francisco, CA. He was the son of the late Ralph Ernest" and Mildred Florence Taylor passed away at his residence on Wednesday October 5, 2016. Donald attended the University of California and Columbia University. He graduated from State University Downstate Medical School on February 27, 1947. His career included: Internship at Westchester County Hospital; one year residency in Chest, Westchester County Hospital, three year residency in Medicine at Norfolk General Hospital with additional training at Medical College of Virginia, University of Virginia Medical School and Philadelphia Post Graduate in Electrocardiography and Gastro-enterology. Squadron Medical Officer, Destroyer Squadron 8 from 1950 through 1952. Chief of Chest Service including Cardio-Pulmonary and Cardiac Catherization, St. Albans Naval Hospital from 1956 through 1958. Diplomat National Board of Examiners. American Board of Internal Medicine. Fellow American College of Physicians, Fellow American College of Chest Physicians,. Fellow International College of Angiology. Founding Fellow Phlebotomy Society. Life College of Chest Physicians. American Thoracic Society. American Trudeau Society. American Heart Association. American Medical Association. American Diabetic Association. Western New York Society of Internal Medicine. American Society of Internal Medicine. International College of Physicians,. Niagara Falls Academy of Medicine. New York State Medical Association. Fellow Royal Society of Medicine; Fellow Aerospace Medical Association. He was Chief of the Pulmonary Function Lab at Niagara Falls Memorial Medical Center and Director of the School of Intermittent Positive Pressure Therapy at Niagara Falls Memorial Medical Center. He was also a member of the National Committee on Emphysema for the American College of Physicians. He was on the Teaching Staff for Pulmonary Medicine at Niagara Falls Memorial Medical Center, Director and Chief Consultant for Tuberculosis of Niagara County and Consultant for Cardio-Pulmonary Medicine. Donald was author or co-author of the following medical publications: Results of 136 Thoracoplastys, American Journal of Thoracic Medicine, 1948; Weber-Christians Disease, Southern Medical Journal, December, 1953; Ristocetin in the treatment of Antibiotic Resistant Staphylococcal Pneumonia, Antibiotic Annual,1957-1958, page 180; Ristocetin and Staphylococcal Pneumonia, Navy Newsletter, 1957; Sicklemia Complicating Chest Surgery, Disease of the Chest, December 1958; Radioactive Fe 59 in Phalassemia Minor in case report of German, English, Scotch extraction, New England Journal of Medicine, 1957; Pulmonary Disability in Industry, Industrial Newsletter, 1961. In 1953 he passed his National Board of Examinations and came to Niagara Falls and practiced Internal Medicine affliliated with Doctors Herman and Robert Brezing. In 1976 he practiced with Drs. Ricotta, Schiavi and Ignatius. He passed the American Board of Internal Medicine in 1953 and was made a fellow of the American College of Physicians in 1956. He was recalled to active duty in the Navy with the rank: of Commander and headed the Cardio-Pulmonary division at St. Albans Naval Hospital, New York City, 1956-1958. While at St. Albans Naval Hospital he was one of the pioneers in developing Ristocitin in the treatment of antibiotic resistant Staphyococcal Pneumonia, and was published nationally. He returned to Niagara Falls to practice Internal Medicine and Chest Diseases in 1958. He practiced at Niagara Falls Memorial Medical Center and Mt. St. Mary's Hospitals. He was Chief of the Pulmonary Function Lab., Exercise Performance Lab, Cardio-Pulmonary Rehab and started and ran the School of Respiratory Therapists at Niagara Falls Memorial Medical Center. He was also the physician for the Niagara Falls Tuberculosis Clinic. Dr. Taylor was an avid tennis player. He played for the University of California Tennis Team and played at the Niagara Falls Country Club. He loved golf and played at the Niagara Falls Country Club with his wife, Judy who shared his passion for golf and had 2 hole-in-ones. He was a former member of the Youngstown Yacht Club and was Commodore of the Fort Niagara Yacht Club. He was an accomplished flyer and a member of the Aircraft Owners and Pilot Association and Flying Physicians. He was a member of the Conti Hunt Club and 3F Club and Twenty Valley Hunt Club and enjoyed many hours hunting with his faithful dog, Max. He loved traveling the world, particularly France, with his beloved wife, Judy. He is survived by his loving wife of 40 years, Judith F. (Stanek) Taylor; his daughters, Deborah Taylor, Cheryl(Stephen)Cloutier, and Janet (Kurt) Cook; one grandchild, Luke Taylor-Brown; and Two great- grandchildren; Nicholas Taylor-Brown and Ava Taylor-Brown and a nephew William (Nancy) Ottino. A Memorial Service will be held Wednesday, October 12th at 11 AM in the Lutheran Church of The Messiah, 915 Oneida St., Lewiston, with the Rev. Thomas R. Mason officiating. There will be no prior visitation. Memorials may be made to Niagara Hospice, 4675 Sunset Dr., Lockport, NY 14094 or to the Respiratory Dept. at Niagara Falls Memorial Medical Center. Arrangements have been entrusted to HARDISON FUNERAL HOME, N. Fourth & Ridge Sts., Lewiston, NY.
