John and Shirley McLean posted a condolence

We are so sorry about your loss of Denny. He was a wonderful person who could laugh even with his health challenges. We saw him in Denver in 2014. Ted, our son, loved to tease him until he responded with great enthusiasm.
Years ago, Denny, Ted and John were at the same table at Denver and Ted's phone rang. He said he had to talk to his girlfriend. We are from Washington State and Denny couldn't believe Ted was dating Hollee Schwingle, from Upstate New York.
Hollee had shown cattle for Denny.
Denny came to Ted and Hollee's wedding in October 2000.
He truly loved Shorthorn cattle, and was a larger than life character.
We are sorry for your loss.

One fond memory is that Denny was the true Irishman at the wake of my father, Charlie Metzler, many years ago. He told stories of the Greene family and his trips to Ireland. All of the Annette and Charlie Metzler family send their condolences. I even own a painting by daughter in law Patricia Greene which I came upon by chance. Famiily connections are important and Denny provided many of us with photos of the original Greene family to keep that history. Thank you to him. Regards, Chris

Gretchen -- All the Shaws were very sad to hear of Denny's passing. We still remember the many kindnesses he extended to our mother when she rented the apartment at 343 Main. He was one of those individuals who truly represented the solid values that make Youngstown such an attractive place to live. He will be sorely missed by everybody who knew him.

Dear Willy,
I am sorry to learn of your loss. I hope that this prayer gives your family comfort.
I was regretting the past and fearing the future.
Suddenly, God was speaking”, My name is I am.”
I waited. God continued. When you live in the past with
its’ mistakes and regrets, it is hard. I am not there. My name
is not “I was”.
When you live in the future with its’ problems and fears,
it is hard. I am not there. My name is not “I will be”.
When you live in this moment, it is not hard. I am here.
My name is “I am”.
With sympathy,
Peter

Dennis was a great man and I enjoyed talking with him at Shorthorn events. Will mis sseeing him in the fall at Bradley's sale. He and my dad, John Humphreys had a good time visiting there. John passed on 10-31-14 and I bet he and Dennis are talking cattle up there. My thoughts and prayers are with the family in this time of loss and grief. May God be with you. Dear Gretchen --
I am sure the rest of the Shaw family joins me in sending condolences to you and yours at the sad news of Denny's passing. He was (as my brother Craig said in sending along the notice) "one of the real good guys of this world", and all the Shaws owe him a debt for his kindness to our mother -- in so many ways -- while she resided at 353 Main Street.
Please know we're thinking of you and mourning with you at this loss. The world would be a much better place if more people like Denny were on it.

Gretchen - I was sorry to learn of Denny's passing. I often think of him whenever I hear about the cousins' picknik because he didn't want me die and he be the oldest of the Greene cousin. It was a joke we shared for many years. My deepest sympathies to you and the family. I now live in No.Carolina and and haven't been back to the Falls area for several year. I lost my husband two years ago. Don't get around much any more.
Again, I know he had a good life and pray he had peaceful death.
Love, Pat Metzler Davis .

Gretchen and family - our hearts are heavy but our memories strong. Denny extended a warm welcome to the newcomers from ME the first year we landed at NYSF with our cattle. Maybe it's because we had shorthorns on board but I think kindness would've been the same if we had unloaded anything else. We were blessed & are thankful for the wonderful friendship built over the years. We enjoyed every opportunity to visit with Denny & Gretchen. A smart, quick-witted, kind man who we all will miss immensely. The good thing is that he has left his imprint of all of us through his friendship & spirit. If Rich lost track of me in the barn at the fair, he always knew he could find me in Denny's corner having a long conversation about cattle - he was a smart cattleman & his knowledge of shorthorn history was amazing. We loved the man & always will.
We aren't able to be with you this weekend but please know you all will be in our hearts and prayers. With our love - Rich & Roberta Morrill.

There are so many memories for us from the first spaghetti dinner that the girls plan to our last cup of tea in Nov. We remember sharing the haying in the summer and cross country skiing in the winter always followed with chilli. I remember singing with Denny in the St. Bernard's choir and the Choraleers. There were many times Jim spent with Denny repairing machinery and trucking cows, and especially harvesting corn on a rainy, cold day in Nov. He will be deeply missed by us. Our thoughts and prayers will be with you on Saturday and always.

Gretchen, Kathy, Alex, Wille and Carlo --
You are all in our thoughts and prayers. In some small measure we share your loss and your memories of this fine man. Husband, Father, Friend. For Jan and I he was the "Claude" in Claude and Maude. For Becky and Andy he was "Uncle Denny". What great fortune I have had to know him and all of you.
