Obituary of Shirley L. Schroeder
Please share a memory of Shirley to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.
Shirley L. Schroeder, of Ransomville NY, wife of 67 years to Dean Schroeder went to be with our Lord on October 27, 2024. Born January 26, 1935, in Fillmore, NY, she was the daughter of Lores and Maxine Towner. Shirley enjoyed an ideal childhood in the town of Fillmore with her older brother, Ken, by her side – the two often found playing behind the counter at their father's general store in the center of town.
Shirley graduated valedictorian from Fillmore Central School in 1952, and Cazenovia College in 1954 as a medical secretary. She worked for several hospitals and doctor's offices, retiring as a medical transcriptionist from Mount Saint Mary's Hospital in Lewiston, NY in 1997. She was also a popular school bus driver with The Ransomville Bus Lines for 19 years (1965-1984) serving the Lew-Port school system.
In 1957, Shirley married the love of her life, Dean Schroeder. The couple lived in Rochester, NY and California before moving to Ransomville, NY in 1964. They had two sons, Douglass and Daniel. Doug and Dan both graduated from Wilson High School and went on to finish college, get married, and then blessed their mother with five adored grandchildren who visited Ransomville often playing in grandpa's (Dean's) wood shop and helping their grandma (Shirley) make her special cookies and homemade strawberry jam.
Surviving are her sons, Douglass A. (Mary Jo) (Texas) and Daniel W. (Diane) (Michigan); grandchildren, Christine, Jennifer, and Kathryn (Texas), and Kelly (Chicago) and Samuel (Atlanta); great-Grandchildren, William, Henry, Caroline, Thomas, Daniel, and Caden (all in Texas). She was predeceased in death by her brother, Kenneth (2014) and her beloved husband, Dean (April, 2024).
Shirley was a member of Ransomville United Methodist Church where she served on various committees, including trustees. She enjoyed bowling, golfing, boating, gardening and traveling. She was known for her consistent faith, her sense of humor, and her unconditional love for her husband, family, and friends. She will be dearly missed by all those who knew her and loved her.
