"Bob" Kilmer, age 85 of Youngstown, was called home to be with his loving wife, Ruth (McMillen) Kilmer, on Monday August 16, 2010 surrounded by his family while under the care of Niagara Hospice House in Lockport.
Robert was born August 5, 1925 in Niagara Falls, NY, the son of the late Milton J. and Georgia (LaBruin) Kilmer. He worked for Loblaw's Grocery Store as a manager for 15 years where he met and on August 15, 1944 married the love of his life, Ruth McMillen. In 1950 they moved to Youngstown where he went to work for his uncle at Read's Grocery Store, which he later owned. Robert also worked 23 years at the New York State Power Authority before retiring in 1991. His love of work led him to a part time job at the Youngstown Post Office.
Robert loved spending time with his family. He enjoyed being outside, gardening, feeding the birds, and talking with his neighbors. Robert was an avid Buffalo Bills and Buffalo Sabres fan. He was an active member of the Youngstown Volunteer Fire Company for 23 years and an Exempt Fireman for 16 years. Robert was also a member of St. John's Episcopal Church in Youngstown.
He is survived by two sons, William (Lyn Seiler) Kilmer of Lewiston and Richard (Betsy) Kilmer of Ransomville. He was the proud "PaPa" to 12 grandchildren and 16 great grandchildren. He is also survived by his cousin, whom he called "brother", Wilton "Pete" (Jean) Kilmer of Grand Island, NY; a brother in law, Robert (Margie) McMillen of Melbourne, FL; and many nieces and nephews. Robert was predeceased by his wife Ruth York (McMillen) Kilmer on October 1, 2006; his son, Milton R. Kilmer in 1992; and a grandson, Jason Kilmer in 1977.
