Obituary of Mary Barbara Oakes

Mary Barbara Oakes, age 71, of Wheatfield died Tuesday, July 23, 2019 at Elderwood Skilled Nursing Facility in Wheatfield. Mary was born July 14, 1948 in Buffalo, NY. She is the daughter of the late Harry C. and the late Mary Carey Oakes. Mary attended and resided at St. Rita’s School in Cheektowaga, she then resided at St. Coletta’s School in Hanover, MA thru school age. She moved to St. Coletta’s in Madison, WI until moving to Youngstown to be closer to her family in 1999. Mary was active at St. Bernard’s in Youngstown for Ten years, she moved to Elderwood Independent Living in 2009. She enjoyed traveling and had been to Europe several times. Mary loved spending time with family, socializing, dining out and crafting, she had a great sense of humor and was a very independent and social person.

 

She is survived by three sisters Ann Oakes, Jane Secord and Nancy Oakes. Mary is predeceased by her sister, Suzanne Behrens and brother, John Oakes.

 

Private services will be held at the convenience of the family. Mary will be buried in St. Stanislaus Cemetery in Cheektowaga, NY.
