Obituary of Larry L. Waggy
Larry L. Waggy of Lewiston, NY passed away on Tuesday, October 9, 2018, at Niagara Falls Memorial Medical Center after a lengthy illness. Born August 10, 1942 in Harrisonburg, VA, he was the son of the late Stanley and Zella (Barnes) Waggy. Larry graduated from Harrisonburg High School. He entered the United States Air Force in 1961 and made it his career serving as a ground radio communications technician and retiring as a Master Sergeant in1980. He was the recipient of numerous commendations and medals during the Vietnam War. After retiring, he worked briefly at Tops Market in Lewiston, and then worked at NYS Department of Motor Vehicles for 10 years.
When Larry worked at the DMV, he was the man that would go the extra mile to make your day a good one. He loved golf and was on a golf league at Hyde Park for several years until his health declined. He also loved Sudoku puzzles, crossword puzzles, card games with his family, casino outings, and traveling nationally and internationally. Most importantly, Larry loved his family, and he will always be remembered for his humbleness, honesty, and loving-kindness.
He married Ann (Struebel) Winslow on August 27, 1977 at the Niagara Falls Air Base. Mrs. Waggy predeceased him on November 18, 2017. Larry is survived by his daughter and step-children Virginia Waggy de la Torre, Valerie (Michael) Banks, Thomas (Suzette) Winslow, and Hans (Lisa) Schafer, his siblings Bill (Janice) Waggy and Donna Waggy (Janice Lowry), two grandchildren, and many other family members. Larry was also predeceased by his sister Linda Waggy.
The family would like to extend their gratefulness to the I.C.U. staff at Niagara Falls Memorial Medical Center for their tender care in his final days.
Private graveside services were held in Oakland Rural Cemetery. If desired, donations may be made to the Disabled American Veterans 30 S. Elmwood Ave. Ste. 620 Buffalo, NY 14202 or to the Lewiston Volunteer Fire Co. #1 Ambulance Fund, 145 N. 6th St. P.O. Box 748, Lewiston, NY 14092. Arrangements have been entrusted to HARDISON FUNERAL HOME, N. Fourth & Ridge Sts., Lewiston, NY.
