Obituary of Chester Carl Banks
Chester Carl Banks, age 86 of Lewiston, died Monday March 19, 2018 in Our Lady of Peace Nursing Care Residence in Lewiston.
Carl was born March 14, 1932 in Niagara Falls, NY, the son of the late Chester and Mary (Gowski) Banks. He graduated from LaSalle High School in 1949 and went to work for the former Hooker Electro Chemical Co. as a chemist's assistant. Carl married Kathleen R. Garvey on April 19, 1952. A Veteran of the Korean War, he entered the U.S. Army in October of 1952. He was honorably discharged in 1954 with rank of CPL and was the recipient of the Good Conduct Medal and the National Defense Service Medal. After his discharge he returned to Hooker Chemical Company which became Occidental Chemical Co. and retired as a Supervisor of Maintenance in 1997 after 45 years of service.
Carl was an avid sportsman, a former Conservation Deputy Sheriff, and former President of the 3F Club in Youngstown. He loved flying and built and piloted his own Cessna for many years.
He is survived by his wife, Kathleen; his children, Deena (Dan) Hucko, Michael (Valerie) Banks, Annette Banks (Curtis Meyer), and Christopher (Maja) Banks; five grandchildren, a great granddaughter; and a sister, Joyce Salda. He was predeceased by a sister, Eleanor Weimer, and a brother Mark (Mary Ellen) Banks.
Friends may call at HARDISON FUNERAL HOME, N. Fourth & Ridge Streets, Lewiston on Friday from 4 – 7 pm. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Saturday, March 24, at 9:30 am in St. Peter RC Church, 600 Center St., Lewiston, with the Rev. Msgr. David G. LiPuma officiating. (Please assemble at Church). Entombment will follow in Gate of Heaven Cemetery, Lewiston. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Alzheimer's Foundation of America, 322 Eighth Avenue, New York, NY 10001.
