Gloria D. Pivetz passed away Friday, February 9, 2018 at Our Lady of Peace Nursing Care Residence, Lewiston, NY, with her son Bruce at her side. In her final days she was also comforted by her children Gloria and Rick, and daughter-in-law Diane.
Gloria was born November 25, 1927 in Buffalo, NY, and was the daughter of the late Stephen and Esther (Noyd) Jesall. On September 4, 1948 she married the late Richard K. Pivetz; they were married for 63 years.
She is survived by her children, Gloria (Jeffrey) Tross and Rick (Lorie) Pivetz in Michigan, and Bruce (Diane Hoffman) Pivetz in Lewiston. Gloria is also survived by her grandchildren Corey (Heather) Tross, Nicholas Tross, Ryan Pivetz, Derek Pivetz, and Brad Pivetz; and step-grandchildren Robert (Heather) Hoffman, Andrea (Rick) Harris, and Meghan (Tim) Kennedy; great-grandchildren Cameron and Brandon Tross; step-great-grandchildren Ricky and Preston Harris; Robby, Vinny, and Zachary Hoffman; and Heath Kennedy. Gloria is also survived by her sister-in-law Mildred Pivetz (late Franklin) Cooper; and by many nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her sister Peggy (late Kenneth) Rudd, and is survived by her sisters Dorothy (late Louis) Rudolph and Joan (late Arthur) Schaeffer.
Gloria earned a Bachelor's degree from the University of Buffalo after all her children started school, and taught nursery school for several years. She enjoyed gardening, travel, nature, baking, cooking, arts, crafts, and swimming. She was a long-time member of the Ken-Sheriton Garden Club, was the Conservation Chairwoman for many years, won numerous awards for her flower decorations, and enjoyed decorating the historic Wilcox Mansion in Buffalo in a Victorian theme.
A private family memorial service will take place in Grand Teton National Park, Wyoming, where Richard and Gloria had visited numerous times over forty years. Final arrangements were entrusted to HARDISON FUNERAL HOME, Lewiston, NY.
The family sincerely thanks the staff of Floor 3 East at Our Lady of Peace for their care of Gloria, and the staff of Niagara Hospice for their vigil care. If desired, memorials may be made in her name to Niagara Hospice, 4675 Sunset Dr. Lockport, NY 14094.
