Ethel was born June 6, 1919 in Niagara Falls, NY, the daughter of the late Harry and Anna (Hanson) Allen. Following her graduation from Trott Vocational School in 1937, she worked for the Carborundum Company. On September 4, 1943 she married William Gordon Owler at Camp Murphy, Florida. They were married for 65 years until his passing in 2009.

They lived in Matteson, IL from 1952 to 1987 when they moved to Youngstown. During their time in Matteson, Ethel and Bill were members of the 1st Presbyterian Church, Chicago Heights, IL and she was a Sunday School Teacher loving her time with the Kindergarten children for 20 years. Her family will always cherish the swimming and boating, picnic dinners, and campfires, her blond brownies and her homemade spaghetti. Ethel and her sister Dorothy enjoyed exploring their family ancestry and sharing their Swedish heritage with family and friends.
