Obituary of Roy H. Youngstrom
Roy H. Youngstrom, age 95 of Lockport, died Tuesday October 3, 2017 in the Eastern Niagara Hospital Lockport after a brief illness.
Roy was born May 15, 1922 in Brooklyn, NY, the son of the late Hjalmar and Ida (Swenson) Youngstrom and moved from Staten Island, NY to Niagara County in 1972. He was a WW II Army Veteran serving from 1942 to his honorable discharge as a Tec 5 in 1946. Roy was the recipient of the American Service Medal, the Asiatic-Pacific Service Medal, the Good Conduct Medal, and the WW II Victory Medal. He was a Journeyman Floor Installer, employed by Westchester Floor Craftsman in White Plains, NY for 30 years retiring in 1970.
Roy was an accomplished Harmonica player and was a Ham Radio Operator, call sign KD4LRL. He traveled extensively and enjoyed being with people. He will be missed by his many friends.
He is survived by a cousin, Oliver Youngstrom of Oklahoma, and many dear friends. He was predeceased by his longtime companion, Elizabeth Stevenson; a sister, Gladys Youngstrom; and a cousin Helen Burton.
Friends may call at HARDISON FUNERAL HOME, 3648 Ransomville Road, Ransomville on Thursday, October 5, from 6 - 7 pm. Funeral Services will begin at 7:00 pm in the funeral home, with the Rev. Rex Stewart officiating, followed by Military Honors. Burial will be in the Ocean View Cemetery, Staten Island, NY on Wednesday, October 11, at 1:00 pm.
