Obituary of Roy Edward Myers
Roy Edward "Bud" Myers, age 84 of Lewiston died Saturday August 5, 2017 at his home under the loving care of his family and Niagara Hospice.
Bud was born September 4, 1932 in Lewiston, the son of the late Roy E. and Leona (Chittenden) Myers. A U.S. Navy veteran of the Korean War (1950-1953), he served as a Fireman on board the USS Eaton (DDE-510) as well as serving as a member of the Naval Honor Guard in Washington, DC. After his honorable discharge from the Navy, Bud worked for the Village of Lewiston from 1953 to 1958 as well as continuing to serve his country as a member of the New York National Guard as a Pvt. with the Hq. 107th Fighter Group, NYNG. He then worked on the Niagara Power Project as an explosives expert for 6 years before his employment with TAM Ceramics in Niagara Falls where he was a laborer and forklift operator for 27 years, retiring in 1992.
Bud was a member and three time past president of the V.F.W. Down River Post # 7487 in Lewiston; a charter member of the Loyal Order of Moose Lodge #584 in Lewiston; and a life member of the 3 F Conservation Club in Lewiston. He played Santa Claus for 10 years at the Moose Lodge in Lewiston and at the V.F.W. Post 54 in Niagara Falls. Bud was an avid hunter, fisherman, and trapper.
On November 11, 1956 Bud married Elizabeth M. (Martin) Myers. Elizabeth predeceased him on January 4, 1999. He is survived by his children, Lynn (late Grant) Gleason, Kenneth (Christie) Myers, Sandra Myers, Michael Myers, and Annette Jo (Michael) Sylva; a sister, Lucille Wyzykowski; a brother, Robert Myers; 10 grandchildren and 12 great grandchildren. He was predeceased by three brothers, Ralph, Ronald, and James Myers, and a sister, Lois Robertson.
Friends may call at HARDISON FUNERAL HOME, N. Fourth & Ridge Streets, Lewiston on Wednesday, August 9, from 4 - 8 pm. Graveside services with Military Honors will be held on Saturday, August 12, at 10:00 am in Dickersonville Cemetery, Lewiston. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the United Cerebral Palsy Association of Niagara County, 9812 Lockport Rd, Niagara Falls, NY 14304-1114 .
