Obituary of Elizabeth M. Olrogge

Elizabeth "Betty" M. Olrogge, age 88, lifelong resident of Lewiston, died Thursday March 2, 2017 in De Graff Memorial Hospital in North Tonawanda, after a brief illness. Elizabeth was born May 28, 1928 in Niagara Falls, NY, the daughter of the late Charles A. and Elizabeth Alice (Pettitt) Near. She was a graduate of Stanford Collegiate High School in Niagara Falls, Ontario and received her Bachelor's Degree in Education from Niagara University in 1967. While at Niagara Elizabeth studied abroad in France and upon graduation she taught French at Niagara-Wheatfield High School for over 20 years. She enjoyed taking her French Club to Quebec City, Canada. Elizabeth was communicant of St. Peter RC Church in Lewiston, a lifetime member of the Lewiston Historical Society, and a member of the Lewiston Senior Citizen Center where she enjoyed playing euchre. She was a former member of the Niagara Frontier Country Club, a former member and past President of the Lewiston Service Guild, and a former member of the Board of Directors of the Nioga Library Board. She is survived by her daughters, Christine (Gerald) Poirier and Mary Olrogge both of Lewiston, her grandchildren, Lisa and Matthew Poirier, and Stephanie (Keith) Zynda. She was predeceased by a brother, Charles A. Near, Jr. Friends may call at HARDISON FUNERAL HOME, N. Fourth & Ridge Streets, Lewiston on Sunday from 2 - 6 pm. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Monday, March 6, at 10:00 AM in St. Peter RC Church, 600 Center St., Lewiston, with the Rev. Msgr. David G. LiPuma officiating.
