Obituary of Edward C. Sloniger

Edward C. Sloniger, age 63 of Youngstown, died suddenly on Wednesday May 27, 2009 in a motor vehicle accident in Ransomville, NY.
Edward was born September 16, 1945 in Punxsutawney, PA, the son of Grace (Wulfert) Sloniger King of Coudersport, PA and the late Edward L. Sloniger. He moved to Youngstown when he was 16 and was a 1965 graduate of Lewiston Porter High School. In October of 1965 he enlisted in the U.S. Navy and served in Vietnam as a member of the Navy Seabees. He was also a boxer in the military. He was the recipient of the Vietnam Service medal, the National Defense Service Medal, and the Vietnam Campaign Medal. Edward was honorably discharged in 1969 and continued to serve his country as a member of the Naval Reserves until 1971. He married Sharon L. (Ziblut) on September 19, 1970. Edward was an Installer, employed by NY Telephone Co. for over 20 years.
He was very patriotic and was active in Veteran's affairs. He was an avid pet lover and will be missed by his "grandpets" Megan, Sally, and Mookie. Edward was especially fond of his 2 seater 2002 T-Bird. He also enjoyed fishing, hunting, bowling, and camping. Most of all, he enjoyed spending time with his grandsons and family.
In addition to his mother, Grace and his step father, William King, he is survived by his wife, Sharon; his daughters, Susan (Joseph) Reed of Penn Yan, NY and Catherine Sloniger of Youngstown; and his grandsons, Edward "Eddie" W. Reed and Andrew "Andy" Reed. He was predeceased by a son, Gary Sloniger.
Friends may call at HARDISON FUNERAL HOME, 3648 Ransomville Road, Ransomville on Wednesday from 4 - 8 pm. Funeral Services will be held on Thursday, June 4, at 10:00 AM in the funeral home, with the Rev. Susan Keppy officiating. Burial with Military Honors will follow in the Oakland Rural Cemetery, Youngstown.
