Obituary of Marjorie C. McCollum

Marjorie Clara McCollum, of Youngstown NY, formerly of Ransomville, NY passed away peacefully in her sleep at home on October 06, 2016. Marjorie was born July 03, 1936 in Niagara Falls, NY to Mary and Duane Reese. Duane and Mary (Stevens) Reese. A graduate of Wilson High School in 1952 and Brockport State with a Bachelor’s degree in education. Marjorie was an active member of the Youngstown and Town of Porter communities, having devoted 28 years to the town at the time of her retirement in 1998, serving 11 years as Tax Collector and another 17 at the Town Assessor. She stayed involved after retirement volunteering with various community programs, Village of Youngstown Zoning Board (chairperson), Youngstown Free Library Board, Friends of the Library (Past President), Youngstown Garden Club (Past President, Treasurer), and was selected as the Village of Youngstown Citizen of the Year for 2015. Margie was an avid gardener, and could be seen in her year and around the village tending to the plants and flower that she loved. Marjorie is survived by her sons Kevin McCollum of Everett, WA and Craig McCollum of Port Orchard, WA. , also her brother Frank (Elaine) Reese and Sisters Helen (Lynn) Sherrie, Norma (Bill) Freeborne, and sister –in-law Dorothy Reese and her granddaughter Clara McCollum and many nieces and nephews. Marjorie is predeceased by her brother Don. Friend may call at the HARDISON FUNERAL HOME 3648 Ransomville Rd. Ransomville on Tuesday from 3-7 PM. Funeral service will be held Wednesday(October 12) at 11:00 AM from the funeral home with Rev. Rex Stewart officiating. Burial in North Ridge Cemetery, Town of Cambria. Memorial donations may be given to the Youngstown Fire Dept. Ambulance Fund or the Youngstown Garden Club.
