Janice R. Gawne, age 83 formerly of the Town of Cambria and Medina, died Sunday September 18, 2016 in the NYS Veterans Home in Batavia. Janice was born June 26, 1933 in Buffalo, the daughter of the late Jeanette Gardner and her step father, Archibald Hamers . She married Howard F. Gawne, II on August 21, 1954 and they lived in the Town of Cambria for 19 years, moving to Medina in 2001. Together they moved to the Veterans Home in Batavia in 2015. Janice worked as a cashier at various retail and grocery stores in the area, retiring in 1982. She also owned and operated "That's Me/That's You" ceramic business from her home in Cambria for 12 years. In addition to her husband, Howard, she is survived by her children, Catherine (Frank) Weed, Deborah M. (Marc) Mattair, Howard F. Gawne, III, Brian J. (Patti) Gawne, Michael L. Gawne, and David A. (Angela) Gawne; two brothers, Ronald J. Gardner and Charles L. Hamers; a sister, Cora Sroka; sixteen grandchildren and many great grandchildren. She was predeceased by two sisters, Beverly A. Crego and Eva Hamers. Services and burial will be private at the convenience of the family. Memorials may be made to the Veterans of Foreign Wars. Arrangements have been entrusted to HARDISON FUNERAL HOME, 3648 Ransomville Rd. Ransomville.
