Arthur Carl Harms, age 87 formerly of Creek Rd. in Lewiston, died Wednesday, March 30, 2016 at his daughter's residence in Oswego, NY where he has lived since 2009. Arthur was born June 21, 1928 in Lewiston, NY, the son of the late Arthur E. and Irene (Chittenden) Harms. He graduated from the Lewiston Red Brick School and entered the U.S. Army in September of 1946, serving with the 12th Calvary Regiment. Arthur was honorably discharged as a PFC in January of 1948. He was the recipient of the WW II Victory Medal and the Army of Occupation Medal Japan. After his discharge he studied Chemistry at Niagara University and on May 8, 1954 he married Lois E. (Keir) Harms. Arthur retired as a Chemical Operator from the Goodyear Tire & Rubber Co., in Niagara Falls, NY in 1990 after 20 years of service. Previous to that he worked at the Lewiston Post Office, as a chemist at Oldbury Chemical Co. in Niagara Falls, and as a groundskeeper/maintenance worker at the Niagara Falls Country Club. Arthur was a former member and Deacon of the First Presbyterian Church of Lewiston. He enjoyed bowling, playing cards, and working outdoors. Lois predeceased him on April 22, 2009. He is survived by his children, Marvin (Carol) Kneeppel of Ransomville, Wayne (Barbara) Kneeppel of Gasport, Karen (Joe) Burke of Oswego, NY, Terry (Jimmy) Dudley of Tallahassee, FL, and Arthur D. Harms (Tony Miciche);seventeen grandchildren and sixteen great grandchildren; two sisters, Shirley (William) Stynes of Virginia, and Janice Bradl of St. Petersburg, FL; and a brother, Evan (Sue) Harms of Tallahassee, FL. He was predeceased by two brothers, Roy and Harold Harms, and a sister, Clarice McCarthy. Friends may call at HARDISON FUNERAL HOME, N. Fourth & Ridge Sts., Lewiston on Friday, April 8, from 4-8 PM. Funeral Services will be held Saturday, April 9, at 3:00 PM in the First Presbyterian Church of Lewiston, 505 Cayuga St., Lewiston, with the Rev. Charles Lamb officiating. Burial with military honors will follow in Dickersonville Cemetery, Lewiston. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the First Presbyterian Church of Lewiston Abiding Memorial fund.
