Obituary of James M. Campbell

James M. Campbell, age 86 of Youngstown, died Sunday February 5, 2017 in the De Graff Memorial Hospital in North Tonawanda.
Jim was born November 22, 1930 in Clifton, NJ, the son of the late James D. and Helen B. (McElwee) Campbell. He was a graduate of Fordham and Notre Dame Universities with a B.S. and Ph.D. in Chemistry respectively. Jim was a retired Technical Service Manager for Hooker Chemical, later Occidental Chemical. Margaret (Russell), his beloved wife, predeceased him in March 2007 after 53 years of marriage.
He enjoyed his home, some traveling, and his beloved children and grandchildren. Jim had been a leader in the Western New York Red Cross blood drive/donations since the 1950's. After his retirement he spent many quality years at the Niagara Falls YMCA and was a volunteer at the Niagara Falls Soup Kitchen for 18 years.
He is survived by his daughter, Margaret "Peggy "A. (the late Avi) Kapur of Youngstown; his son, James "Jay" R. (Joy) Campbell of Rock Hill, SC; four very special grandchildren, Jodie and Jamie Campbell, Arjun and Bryce Kapur; two sisters, Jane Lee and Barbara Nash; and many nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by a sister, Helen Patapchuk.
Friends may call at HARDISON FUNERAL HOME, N. Fourth & Ridge Streets, Lewiston on Wednesday, February 8, from 5 - 8 pm. Graveside Services will be held Thursday, February 9, at 1:00 pm in Oakland Rural Cemetery, Lake Rd., Youngstown. Flowers are gratefully declined. Those wishing to remember Jim are asked to do a deed of simple kindness for someone, which is what he would have liked. Jim's family would also like to offer a special thank you to the staff at Brookdale Niagara for the compassion and care they gave to Jim.
