Margaret C. Waite, age 100 of Wilson, died Saturday February 4, 2017 in the Odd Fellow & Rebekah Health Facility in Lockport. Margaret was born July 27, 1916 in St. Catharine's Ontario, Canada, the daughter of the late John and Margaret (O'Brien) Foley and was raised in Niagara Falls, NY. She was a 1934 graduate of Niagara Falls High School and received her Bachelor’s Degree from D’Youville College in 1938. In 1940 Margaret received her Master’s Degree in Education from Niagara University and began her teaching career at LaSalle Senior High School before joining the staff at Wilson High School where she taught until 1943. On April 24, 1943 she married Albert Waite and they lived and raised their family in Wilson. Margaret resumed her career in 1962, teaching Junior High School English at Newfane Central Schools. After her retirement in 1981 she and Albert wintered in Seminole, FL for over 20 years. Margaret was a communicant of St. Brendan on the Lake RC Church in Wilson, a member of the Tatler Club in Niagara Falls, and a member of the NYS Retired Teachers Association. She was an avid bridge player and gardener, but especially enjoyed spending time with her family and friends. Her husband, Albert, predeceased her in 2005. She is survived by nine children, Albert (Diane) Waite of Belton, TX, John (Martha) Waite of Chicago, IL, Richard (Marjorie) Waite of Buffalo, Thomas (Gayle) Waite of Elizabeth City, NC, Robert (Karen) Waite of Gasport, Mary Ellen Waite of San Francisco, CA, Susan (William) VanTyle of Newark, NY, Paul (Molly) Waite of Depew, and Michael (Judy) Waite of Lockport; 21 grandchildren, 24 great grandchildren, and several nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by two sisters, Mary Evans and Helen Curtin, and a brother, John Foley. Friends may call at HARDISON FUNERAL HOME, 3648 Ransomville Road, Ransomville on Wednesday from 5 - 8 pm. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Thursday, February 9, at 10:00 am at the Niagara University Chapel with the Rev. Joseph Levesque, CM officiating. (Please assemble at the Chapel) Burial will follow in the Gate of Heaven Cemetery, Lewiston.
