John Senek, age 85 of Ransomville, died Friday April 23, 2010 after a brief illness. John was born June 10, 1924 in Ransomville, the son of the late John and Elizabeth (Oganowski) Senek. A lifelong farmer, he owned and operated Senek Farms in Ransomville and started going to market at the age of 5. Through the years John took his produce to the Clinton & Bailey Market in Buffalo, the North Tonawanda Market, and the Niagara Falls Market. During the Niagara Power Project he was a Crane Operator and member of the Operating Engineers. John was also employed part time by the Town of Porter Highway Department as a snow plow operator. For over 60 years he has been a member of the Ransomville Volunteer Fire Company and is also Exempt Member. He is a member of the NYS Big Buck Club and the Niagara County Farm Bureau. John served as a Niagara County Community Committeeman from 1969 to the present as well serving on the Niagara County Farm Service Agency County Committee from 2003 to 2009. An avid hunter and outdoorsman, he mostly enjoyed being with his grandchildren, family and friends. On November 17, 1951 he married Clarabell B. (Lederhouse) Senek, who predeceased him on May 11, 2005. He is survived by his children, Brenda (Malcolm) Johannes, Maureen (Henry) Koroschetz, Patricia (John) Susice, Tim (Sheri) Senek, and Mark Senek all of Ransomville; his grandchildren, Dara and Megan (Josh), Kaitlin, Jordynn, Matthew, and Andrew, Brandon, Austin, James, Cole, and John, Jessica, Brett, and Rachel; and several nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by a son, Michael Senek; a brother, Raymond Senek; and four sisters, Josephine Campbell, May Sawyer, Stella Wnuk, and Anna Gratz. Friends may call at HARDISON FUNERAL HOME, 3648 Ransomville Road, Ransomville on Sunday from 2 - 4 and 7 - 9 PM. Funeral Services will be held Monday, April 26, at 10:00 AM in the Fillmore Chapel United Methodist Church, corner of Youngstown- Wilson and Ransomville Rds. Ransomville, with the Rev. Les Drayer officiating. Burial will follow in North Ridge Cemetery, Church Rd., Town of Cambria. Memorials may be made to the Ransomville Vol. Fire Co.
