My thoughts and prayers are with your family. I knew Gary from Checkers and ran with him for a number of years. He was a great friend and I loved how family orientated he was. He would talk about his teams and I know how he went out of his way to include everyone of all abilities, both physically and mentally. His teams were a place for everyone. Gary leaves behind a tremendous legacy.

I had the opportunity to coach cross country against gary and his lewport teams .In an age where winning seems a little more important than it should be--at least at the high school level-gary always, I mean always had the proper perspective. He always put the welfare of all the kids participating -from both teams-first. He was always the same guy whether he had a strong team or one who needed some work. I could tell the students he coached respected him. It is no surprise to hear how his peers felt about him. I used to run with him in the devils hole area of whirlpool state park. We used to talk about everything from A-Z. He will be missed.

Dear Jennifer and family,
Please accept our deepest condolences on the loss of your father. We consider ourselves privileged to have gotten to know him during the fall cross country season. He was a wonderful mentor to our boys, Ben and Josh, teaching them how to be gentlemen and varsity athletes while upholding his values of family, school, respect for self and others and having fun. He didn't just teach these values, he lived them, and everyone in his midst felt happier and more hopeful with a greater capacity to believe. As far as coaches and human beings go, he is the very best. Thank you for sharing him with us, and may you find comfort in the knowledge that his legacy goes on in those inspired. Jennifer, you are so like your father, and so as you move forward, so does his spirit.
God bless you and keep you.
With eternal gratitude,
Elizabeth, Rico, Ben, Josh and Mary Cardamone

I'm so sorry to hear the sad news of Gary's passing. As a fellow cross-country and track coach, I both admired and envied Gary's easy manner and obvious passion for his athletes. He always had a moment to stop and chat, and his ready smile and gentle demeanor always made my day. Gary made a great impact on the running community. I offer my sincere condolences for your loss.
