Julie C. Gratz-Kleylein, age 45 of Lockport died Thursday January 5, 2017 in the Niagara Hospice House in Lockport, after a lengthy illness. Julie was born October 25, 1971 in Lewiston, NY, the daughter of Dennis and Faye (Lederhouse) Gratz of Ransomville. She was a 1989 graduate of Wilson High School and went on to receive her Bachelor's Degree in Education from Buffalo State Teachers College. Julie taught at Stevenson Elementary School in Ransomville for two years before moving to North Carolina where she taught for a number of years before returning to this area six years ago. Julie attended The Chapel in Amherst and actively supported their children's programs and activities. She loved walking and her love of teaching and children influenced her to author a children's book "Sonya's Garden". In addition to her parents, she is survived by a brother, Jack (Janet) Gratz of Akron, NY; a niece and nephew, Kassandra and Tyler Gratz; and several aunts, uncles, and cousins. Julie was predeceased by her grandparents, Chester and Edith Lederhouse, and Anna Gratz. Friends may call at HARDISON FUNERAL HOME, 3648 Ransomville Road, Ransomville on Monday, January 9, from 2 - 4 and 6 - 8 PM. A prayer service will begin in the funeral home at 8 pm with Pastor Jonathan Drake officiating. In lieu of flowers memorials may be made to Niagara Hospice, 4675 Sunset Dr., Lockport, NY 14094.
