Obituary of Richard J. Lucas

Richard "Dick" Lucas of Youngstown passed away on October 24, 2016, after a brief illness.
He was born on September 8, 1938, in Bellefonte, Pennsylvania to the late Terrill and Dorothy
(Saylor) Lucas. In 1946, his family relocated to Youngstown and lived at Fort Niagara in Military
housing. After the war, the family remained in the village. Richard graduated from Lewiston-
Porter in 1956. He immediately joined the Plumbers and Steamfitters Local 129 and retired
from the union in 1986. During these years he was honored to work for the George B. Edwards
Plumbing and Heating Company for 20 years. In 1986, Richard took a position as a plumbing
mechanic at the New York Power Authority. He retired in 2006.
Richard was a lifelong hunter and was a member of several organizations including the
Niagara Falls Bowling Association, in which he was president from, 1976-1977. He was a
member of the New York State Association of Football Officials from 1973-1990. He was a
member of the Loyal Order of Moose and until September of this year, Richard maintained a
seat on the Village of Youngstown Zoning Board of Appeals for over 40 years. As an avid golfer,
he was also a member of the Niagara Frontier Country Club. He loved Youngstown and could
always be seen with his loyal and constant companion "Frankie".
Richard is survived by his wife of 54 years, his beloved "Deenie", the former Nadine Amey,
two daughters, Lisa (Bob Kowalski) and Mollie. He was pre deceased by his other two children,
Terrill Richard and Melinda Anne. He is also survived by his greatest joys, his grandsons,
Jordan Kowalski and Shane Kowalski. In addition, he is survived by his sisters Nancy (Harold
Shippy), Judy (Zimmerman), Becky (Majka), Susan Lucas and several nieces and nephews. He
was predeceased by his brother Terrill "Pete" Lucas and his sister Joyce (Penders).
Friends may call at HARDISON FUNERAL HOME, N. Fourth & Ridge Sts., Lewiston on Thursday, October 27, from 3 - 7pm. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Friday, October 28, at 11:00 am in St. Bernard's RC Church, Second and Hinman Sts., Youngstown with the Rev. Msgr. David G. LiPuma officiating. (Please assemble at Church). Burial will follow in Oakland Rural Cemetery, Lake Road, Youngstown. In lieu of flowers, donations to the Youngstown Volunteer Fire Company, PO Box 387, Youngstown, NY 14174 are greatly
appreciated.
Lastly, to the "boys" of the Youngstown DPW, your kindness, patience and respect
throughout the years never went unnoticed. Each of you was like a son to Richard and he loved
you more than you could ever know.
