Obituary of Margaret "Margot" C. Owen

Margaret “Margot” C. Owen, age 94 of Youngstown, died Monday October 17, 2012 in Our Lady of Peace Nursing Care Residence in Lewiston, after a brief illness. Margot was born August 19, 1922 in Buffalo, NY, the daughter of the late Alexander J. and Margaret (Markens) Cordes. She was a graduate of the Buffalo Seminary and on August 29, 1942 she married John W. Owen, DDS. Dr. Owen was a local dentist, dental product inventor. and entrepreneur. Margot served as General Manager for his business concerns until they retired in 1978. She was a member of the First Presbyterian Church of Lewiston for over 50 years, a member of the Youngstown Yacht Club since 1958, and a member of the Youngstown Study Club. An avid reader, lifelong birder and outdoor enthusiast, Margot instilled in her children an appreciation of the natural world and the value of all living in it. Her husband, John, predeceased her in 2008. She is survived by four sons, John (Rev. Dr. Joyce E. Sirianni) Owen, Jr., Peter Owen both of Youngstown, Roger (Betsy) Owen, MD of Springfield, VT and David(Barbara Freund) Owen of Shushan, NY; her grandchildren, Jennifer Owen (Chris May), Alison (Bruce) Todd, and Beth (Keith) Bisson; her great grandchildren, Malcolm and Phoebe Todd, Jonathan, Margo, and Ethan Bisson; her nephew Jad (Shelly Heffernan)Cordes and nieces Ann (Tom)Page and Susan (Alan)Klitzke. She was predeceased by a brother, Alexander C. Cordes. A Memorial Service will be held Saturday, October 22, at 11:00 AM in The First Presbyterian Church of Lewiston, 505 Cayuga St., Lewiston, with the Rev. Dr. Elizabeth Morgan officiating. There will be no prior visitation. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Buffalo Audubon Society, 1610 Welch Rd, North Java, NY 14113 or to Roswell Park Cancer Institute, PO Box 631, Buffalo, NY 14240-9856. Arrangements have been entrusted to HARDISON FUNERAL HOME, N. Fourth & Ridge Sts., Lewiston.
