Robert C. Sayers, age 88 of Youngstown, passed away on Sunday August 21, 2016 surrounded by his family, after a brief illness.
Bob was born May 20, 1928 in Clarksburg, WV, the son of the late Floyd D. and Opal L. (Simmons) Sayers. He was a 1947 graduate of Bridgeport High School in Bridgeport, WV and a 1950 graduate of Alderson Broaddus College in Philippi, WV. Bob married Olive Layman in 1949 and they had just celebrated their 67th wedding anniversary.
After graduating college, Bob began a career with Union Carbide Corporation, Carbon Products Division in Clarksburg, WV. In 1966 he was transferred to Niagara Falls, NY and he moved his family to Youngstown. After 35 years of service he retired as Comptroller in 1985.
Bob was a Deacon and member of the First Baptist Church in Niagara Falls. He was very active in community activities, serving on the City Management Advisory Board (C.M.A.B.) Niagara falls, NY; a member of the Board of Associates at Mt. St. Mary's Hospital, Lewiston, and as a United Way Volunteer. After his retirement Bob and Olive bought a RV and traveled for many years, seeing much of the USA. In his later years he enjoyed sitting by the backyard fire with his family and listening to his high school alma maters football games.
In addition to his wife he is survived by three daughters, Debra Sayers (Alex)Padowski, Karen Sayers Loveland, and Kathy Sayers Krell; his five grandchildren, Sandra Padowski Root, Robert Alexander Padowski, Jamie Padowski (Shawn) Hasenstab, Katelynn Padowski (Drew) Brigham, and Douglas Krell; and four great grandchildren, Cassidy, Ashton, Mara, and Zahm.
Friends may call at HARDISON FUNERAL HOME, N. Fourth & Ridge Streets, Lewiston on Wednesday from 3 - 7 PM. Funeral Services will be held Thursday, August 25, at 10:00 AM in the funeral home, with the Rev. Bonnie LaVelley officiating. Burial will follow in North Ridge Cemetery, Town of Cambria. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Youngstown Volunteer Fire Co., Ambulance Fund, PO Box 387, Youngstown, NY 14174.
