__________________________________________________________________________ Richard H. "Dick" Marshall, age 82 of Ransomville, died Tuesday March 23, 2010, surrounded by his wife and children in Mount St. Mary's Hospital in Lewiston, after a brief illness. Dick was born March 21, 1928 in Niagara Falls, NY, the son of the late Herbert H. and Grace (Watson) Marshall. His family moved to Johnstown, NY where he attended local schools and then to Canajoharie, NY where he graduated from Canajoharie High School in 1946. Dick had a strong interest in electronics and radio communications and opened a radio repair shop in Canajoharie after graduation. He returned to Niagara Falls in 1949 where he met Marie L. Schroeder at a church event. They were married on October 28, 1950 at St. Paul Lutheran Church in Niagara Falls. Together they built a home in Ransomville where they have resided for almost 60 years, raising a family of seven children. Dick was a Communications Specialist with the 107th New York Air National Guard and when it was activated in the early 1950's he was assigned to Stewart Air Force Base in Florida. He was employed by Carborundum Co. in Niagara Falls, NY as a Foreman of the Instrument Shop from 1954 until his retirement in1992. Dick was an avid Ham Radio enthusiast, licensed under the call letters W2EXY. He led the Carrier Net from his radio desk at home every Saturday morning, bringing together many radio friends from around the state. He volunteered as a radio operator at various American Red Cross functions and actively met with his radio "buddies" for many years. As a long time member of St. John Lutheran Church in Youngstown, he held various offices and sang in the choir. He was also a former member of the Ransomville Volunteer Fire Co. In addition to his wife of 59 years, Marie, he is survived by his children; Richard P. (Tina) Marshall of Pensacola, FL, Anne Marie (Don) Vought of Ransomville, David J. Marshall (Lynn Daniels) of Punxsutawney, PA, Stephen J. Marshall of the Town of Niagara, Debra Lynn (Mark) Kirkland of Seattle, WA, and Judith C. Marshall (Joe Giunta) of Rochester, NY. He was predeceased by a son, John Robert Marshall in 1994. He is the grandfather of Carolyn Boone, Chad Gugliuzza, Laura Eggart, Allison Floberg, Elizabeth, Brandon, and Robert Marshall and is also survived by 6 great grandchildren, many nieces and nephews; and by his cousins, Joan (Angelo) Forgione of Sanborn, and Natalie (Milo) Warren of Ocala, FL. Friends may call at HARDISON FUNERAL HOME, 3648 Ransomville Road, Ransomville on Friday from 2 - 4 and 7 - 9 PM. Funeral Services will be held Saturday, March 27, at 11:00 AM in St. John Lutheran Church, 420 Lockport St., Youngstown, with the Rev. Richard Blemaster officiating. In lieu of flowers, Memorials may be made to St. John Lutheran Church, 420 Lockport St., Youngstown, NY 14174. Burial will be in St. John Lutheran Cemetery in Youngstown at the convenience of the family.
