Obituary of Alwyne Carleton Jealous

Alwyne Carleton "Carl" Jealous, age 97 of Youngstown, died Friday May 6, 2016 in Our Lady of Peace Nursing Care Residence in Lewiston, after a lengthy illness.
Carl was born November 30, 1918 in Worcester, MA, the son of the late Alwyne F. and Madeline (Carleton) Jealous. He attended local schools and received his Bachelor's Degree in Chemical Engineering from M.I.T. Carl married Mamie (Killion) Jealous on February 25, 1945. He and his family were amongst the first 100 families to live in Oak Ridge TN where he worked on the famed Manhattan Project. Carl was the original editor of the Oak Ridge Newspaper. He began working for Union Carbide in 1956 and was a Project Manager for the Mining and Metals Division. Carl retired after 35 years of service.
He was a member of the First Presbyterian Church of Youngstown, the Youngstown Estates Retired Executives Drinking Association, the M.I.T. Alumni Association, and the Niagara Falls Country Club. He enjoyed playing golf and bridge.
His wife, Mamie, predeceased him in 2000. He is survived by his daughters, Charlotte Jealous Birch of Durham, NC and Alice Carleton (William) Walker of Hamilton, OH; three grandchildren, James Walker, Meagan Birch-Abreau, and Duncan (Jennifer) Birch; a great grandson, Michael Birch-Abreau; a brother, David Jealous of Manchester, VT; two nephews, Scott and Brook and a niece, Suzanne. He was predeceased by his dear friend and companion, Ruth Woolery.
A Memorial Service will be held Tuesday, May 10, at 10:00 AM in the First Presbyterian Church of Youngstown, 100 Church St., Youngstown, with the Rev. Charles Lamb officiating. There will be no prior visitation. Burial will be in the Hillcrest Memorial Cemetery, Dandridge, TN. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the First Presbyterian Church of Youngstown, 100 Church St., Youngstown, NY 14174 or to a Charity of one's choice. Arrangements have been entrusted to HARDISON FUNERAL HOME, N. Fourth & Ridge Sts., Lewiston.
