Lois M. Monroe, age 89 of Youngstown, died Monday March 21, 2016 in the Schoellkopf Health Center in Niagara Falls, NY after a brief illness.
Lois was born January 31, 1927 in Niagara Falls, NY, the daughter of the late Louis and Olive (Whittaker) McSpadden. She attended local schools and graduated from the Deaconess Hospital Nursing School. Lois retired from Nursing in the 1960's after a 30 year career. She was employed as a Registered Nurse at Mt. St. Mary's Hospital, the Niagara Falls Memorial Medical Center, and in several local physicians' offices. Prior to WW II she had worked with the Army Nursing Corp.
Lois was a member of the P.E.O. Sisterhood and the Lewiston Senior Center. She was an avid reader of fiction and mysteries.
Lois married James F. Monroe on June 12, 1948. James predeceased her in 2004. She is survived by a son, Robert (Patricia) Monroe of Youngstown.
Friends may call at HARDISON FUNERAL HOME, N. Fourth & Ridge Streets, Lewiston on Thursday, March 24, from 3 - 7 PM. Services and burial at Riverdale Cemetery will be private. In lieu of flowers, Memorials may be made to Niagara Hospice, 4675 Sunset Dr., Lockport, NY 14094.
