Obituary of Augustina T. Downs

Augustina T. Downs, age 85 of Ransomville NY, died Friday March 18, 2016 in the Mt. St. Mary's Hospital in Lewiston. Augustina was born in Niagara Falls, NY, the daughter of the late Andres and the late Rena (Aracne) Prieto. On July 17, 1953 she married Gerald P. Downs. Gerald predeceased her in 2011. Augustina worked as a Nurse's Aide at Niagara Falls Memorial Medical Center and Ransomville General Hospital. She then worked as a caterer with Mary & Walt's Deli in Niagara Falls followed by working in the kitchen at Stella Niagara. Augustina was a communicant of Immaculate Conception RC Church in Ransomville. She enjoyed painting, playing cards, and bingo. She is survived by her beloved children, Mark Downs (Tracey Bassler), Dawn (Rick) Clause-Cassatt, Bruce (James), Paul (Michelle), and Gerry Downs; ten grandchildren, many great grandchildren, nieces, nephews, great nieces and nephews; her sisters in law, Kyoko Prieto, Betty Schwenk, and Dorothy (Joseph) McVittie. She was predeceased by her brother, Andrew Prieto; a sister, Paula Tomasini; a son in law, Ross Clause; brothers in law, William Schwenk, Robert Downs, and Richard Tomasini; and a sister in law, Helen Knight. Augustina's family would like to acknowledge and thank the staff from Mcauley-Seton and Kim Simpson and staff from Mobile Primary Care for the wonderful care and comfort they gave to her. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Monday, March 28, at 10:00 am in Immaculate Conception RC Church, 4671 Townline Rd. (Rte.429) Ransomville, with the Rev. James Bastian officiating. There will be no prior visitation. Flowers are gratefully declined. Memorials may be made to the So. Wilson Volunteer Fire Co. Ambulance Fund, 4194 Chestnut Rd., Wilson, NY 14172.
