Always a straight arrow above the fray. After retiring I attended his going away party, a picnic in the open field behind his office. Straight and simple, at his request. He was a good man, respected and admired. He set a fine example for all. Something to strive for.

In moving to Youngstown NY in October 2012, we had the great pleasure of moving next door to the Craig family and meeting them. Wayne was over on the day of the move; introducing himself to Tom and immediately offering any assistance we might need.
Wayne and Judi were private people, but friendly, warm, and caring. I'll never forget looking out my back window to see Wayne picking up our leaves - without any hesitation. He knew we didn't have a mower and he just drove over on his tractor and helped us out. Many times, in the past three years, he has offered and helped us -- to our immense gratitude -- and has been so cordial and friendly. We enjoyed talking with him and Judi; often seeing their beautiful dog KC running alongside the yard with her ears blowing in the wind and a big grin on her face. It matched Wayne's as he raced around the yard at a good clip while mowing - he enjoyed flying then too! Many an evening, we'd sit on the patio and the fantastic scent of his pipe would drift over and we'd smile knowing he was out there enjoying the peaceful and beautiful view also.
Wayne was a man of integrity, quiet strength, and intelligence; he was humble, and kind. He will be missed by our family and we will never forget him. It was with great sorrow to learn of his passing and great joy to have met and known him during the past three years. Our hearts go out to his sweet and loving wife, Judi, and his children and grandchildren. Judi, we send you our love with open hearts. Please accept our heartfelt condolences.

We remember Uncle Wayne as being a wonderful person. We didn't see each other often, but when we did we always had a fun time and totally enjoyed each other. We admire him for his strength and stubbornness, and how he fought cancer. He was very brave. It was always fun to see Dad and Wayne joke with each other and I'm glad we grew up knowing him. We miss you all and will see you in Maine.
All our love,
Lynn and Dave

I don’t remember crossing paths with Wayne during my 17 years as a guardsman crew chief with the 107th. I did, however, get to know him as a member of the Wing and Rotor RC flying club. He was the first to show up at the Adopt a Highway clean-ups and contributed greatly to the club. I remember the first time I met Wayne at the flying field – he had an ancient looking transmitter. Some years later he talked me into borrowing one of his extras. He said “If you like it - pay me what you think it is worth in a year”. I bought it from him a few weeks after he said that. As generous of a man that Wayne was, I don’t think he would ever have asked to be paid. I’ll miss him. My deepest condolences.

I was a crew chief with the 107th for many years . I worked with Wayne(sent him off) numerous times. He was a great down to earth guy. Many fighter pilots are full of themselves,Not Wayne. He also always treated the enlisted "troops" with respect......and it was mutual. Everybody liked him .Please accept our condolences.

I'm saddened for the loss of Col Craig. It was a true honor to have flown with him at Niagara. He was always a pleasure to talk with, whether about flying jets or RC airplanes. He once gave me boxes of Popular Mechanics magazines that he had collected. They were well read on the many tours of Alert we all spent.
We are so sorry for your loss. WayneO will be missed.

The Pilot/Crew Chief relationship is based on trust and respect. Wayne's high standards is what made him so good at what he did. These same standards made us better at what we were tasked to do. You gave us your trust and earned our respect. Aim High Colonel. Dave Joseph

Wayne and I retired from the 107th at about the same time. He was a good mentor when I first arrived from another unit in 1982, helping me to get to know my new squadron mates. I always enjoyed my talks with him. He truly was a great individual, The US is a bit diminished with his passing.

Really going to miss Wayne. He always was helpful with his knowledge of the R/C airplanes that he loved so much. I also liked to hear his stories, when he would talk about them. My grandson loved talking to Wayne also, 9 yrs old. He couldn't believe Wayne flew the real jets.
Gonna miss you at the field, but you will always be in my heart.

He was a wonderful neighbor who was always willing to help others He was very clever mechanically. He loved gadgets and enjoyed making things work. He was the first one out in the morning to clean off his driveway from any snow. We will miss him and the smell of his pipe in the early morning as he went out to get the paper. He was a man who served his country and took pride in his accomplishments. He so enjoyed listening to Rush Limbaugh each day. We will miss him very much.
