I worked with Hank for a couple of summers at 95th Street School when I was about 14 years old, Back then, poor youth could be hired under the "CETA" program to help show them the value of a day's labor and give them life skills to learn. Hank was a simple, straightforward, but very sweet man and also very private. He worked hard, did his job faithfully and dutifully, and was always ready to support and lend a knowledgeable helping hand to the youth of Niagara Falls with baseball.
On a break at work one summer's day, I at 14 went scouring the grass, looking for 4 leaf clovers. Hank joined me and said "I wish all girls could be as simple as you." I'm 51 now and I will always remember his words.
He joins the Lord now, forever young, and may he rest in his loving hands in peace.
