Obituary of Carolyn W. Lukas

Carolyn W. Lukas, age 92 of Lewiston, died Wednesday February 3, 2016 in Our Lady of Peace Nursing Care Residence in Lewiston, after a short illness. Carolyn was born October 2, 1923 in Columbus, OH, the daughter of the late John and Catherine (Brown) Wright. She attended West High School and upon graduation she was employed as a Secretary by the Curtiss Wright Corp. in Columbus. On October 25, 1947 she married Joseph R. Lukas and they moved to Niagara Falls, NY in 1949 and to Lewiston, NY in 1956. A Communicant of St. Peter's RC Church in Lewiston, Carolyn was also employed as the Secretary of the Church School for 25 years, retiring in 1991. She was an active member of the church and sang in the choir. Carolyn was a wonderful homemaker and enjoyed cooking and gardening. Always looking to keep her mind active, she enjoyed reading books and the daily newspapers and doing crossword puzzles. She especially loved the view from her home on River Road and the beautiful sunsets over the Niagara River. Her husband, Joseph, predeceased her in 1988. She is survived by her sons, Robert J. Lukas, Lt. Col. Ret. USAF of Harrison Township, MI, Rev. Martin C. Lukas, OSFS of Toledo, OH, and Alan D. Lukas of Lewiston, NY; and a brother, Charles (Renate) Wright of Columbus, OH. She was predeceased by a sister, Helen Vemillion and a brother, Robert Wright. Friends may call at St. Peter's RC Church, 600 Center St., Lewiston on Monday from 1 - 4 PM. At 4:00 PM a Mass of Christian Burial will be concelebrated in the Church by the Rev. Martin C. Lukas and the Rev. Msgr. David G. LiPuma. Entombment at Gate of Heaven Mausoleum will be private. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Oblates of St. Francis DeSales, 2049 Parkside Blvd. Toledo, OH 43607 or to St. Peter's RC Church School, 620 Center St., Lewiston, NY 14092.
