Obituary of Irene H. Harrison

Irene H. Harrison, age 81 of Lewiston, passed away on Sunday February 7, 2010 at Our Lady of Peace Nursing Residence in Lewiston, after a short illness, leaving behind her beloved husband and buddy Harry C. Harrison; her children, William J. and Janet Collesano of Youngstown, Rebecca and Gerald Stevens of Wilson, and Cher Jones of Belfast, ME; and her grandchildren who will truly find their lives missing their "Manew", Christopher and Christina, Jessica and Marta, and Lindsay . Born the last of 10 children to Charles and Madge Heintzleman, on January 7, 1929 in New Philadelphia, Ohio, Irene went on to graduate from the University of Miami in Ohio with a teachers degree in art. An early member of the Youngstown Civic Guild, she completed the painted mural at the Officers Club at Fort Niagara, that had been started by a WW II prisoner of war. In later years, she was able to meet with the original artist, and he highly praised the completion. Irene had many working lives and licenses, a real estate broker for Dan and Lucy Wilson's Realty Inc., Office manager for several stock brokerages in Niagara Falls, and finally as a financial consultant and operations manager for Linsco/Private Ledger Financial Services. An avid reader and gardener, Irene surrounded herself with art, flowers and friends. Active to the last moment in the Republican party, and fearless to the world in raising her three children, she and her best friend harry, traveled the world, where she learned to ski late in life, became an airplane co-pilot, and took command of the kitchen. As members of the Niagara Falls Country Club, they enjoyed many happy hours on the course and in the dining room. A memorial service will be held at the First Presbyterian Church of Youngstown on Friday, February 12th, at 7:00 PM.
