William E. Hallatt, 90, of Lewiston NY, died Saturday November 28, 2015 at Mt. St. Mary's Hospital in Lewiston. He was born in Niagara Falls, NY on July 19, 1925, the son of William and Honor Welch Hallatt. Bill attended elementary school at Stella Niagara Cadet School and was Cadet Captain in 1938-1939. He then attended Niagara Falls High School and graduated with the Class of 1943. Following high school, Bill enrolled in a work study program with the Carborundum Company of Niagara Falls and Rochester Institute of Technology (RIT), where he received a degree in Mechanical Engineering in 1947. Following completion of his studies at RIT, he was employed by the Coated Abrasives Division of Carborundum in various positions leading to Director of Design Engineering. During that time he designed major production equipment and machinery used to manufacture coated abrasives. He traveled extensively to Carborundum affiliates in Japan, Mexico, Columbia, Venezuela, Brazil, England, and Italy. After 31 years at Carborundum, Bill joined the Linde Division of Union Carbide, Town of Tonawanda, where he was a Project Manager for the next 17 years, retiring in 1991. His work at Linde involved the design and management of municipal oxygen waste water treatment facilities and gas based oil well recovery systems in cities throughout the United States and Canada. Bill was an active member of St. Peter's RC Church, Lewiston, since 1971 and a member and past president of its St. Vincent de Paul Society since 1974. In 2013 he was awarded the Frederick Ozanam medal for the Diocese of Buffalo. Bill is survived by his wife of 51 years, Mary Lou (Bartholomew) Hallatt whom he married on November 28, 1964 at St. Teresa of the Infant Jesus Church, Niagara Falls. They are the parents of three children, Mary Catherine (John) Wallen, Hudson, OH; William B. Hallatt, Marietta, GA; and Jennifer (John) McNicholas, Wheaton, IL. Bill is also survived by grandchildren Jay, Andy, Juli, Molli, Johnie, and Helen Wallen and Kate and Allison McNicholas, nieces Anne McCrone (Lawrence) Dombrowski, Sterling, VA and Judy McCrone (Dennis) Castiglia, Grand Island. He was predeceased by his sister Honor Barbara (Robert) McCrone. Visitation will be at the HARDISON FUNERAL HOME, N. Fourth & Ridge Sts., Lewiston on Thursday, December 3, from 3 – 7 pm. A Mass of Christina Burial will be celebrated at St. Peter's RC Church 600 Center St., Lewiston on Friday, December 4, at 11 am with the Rev. Msgr. David G. LiPuma officiating. (Please assemble at Church). Burial will follow in Gate of Heaven Cemetery, Lewiston. Flowers are gratefully declined. If desired, contributions in memory of Bill may be given to the St. Vincent de Paul Society at St. Peter's RC Church or to St. Peter's School, 140 North 6th St., Lewiston, NY 14092.
