Obituary of Ruby C. Maulis

Ruby Charlotte Maulis, 100, of Lewiston, passed away on Wednesday, November 11, 2015 at the Elderwood at Wheatfield Nursing Home in Wheatfield. She had just celebrated her 100th birthday with family and friends. Born in the village of La Salle, NY on November 8, 1915, Ruby was the daughter of the late Alfred and Bertha (Newman) Mason, and sister to the late Alfred Mason, Jr. She graduated from Niagara Falls High School in 1934 and worked as a secretary at the Carborundum Company in Niagara Falls for 41 years before retiring in 1980. Ruby was married to her beloved husband Joseph Maulis for 56 years until his death in 1997. Ruby and Joe loved to travel and visited every continent except Antarctica. They were among the first tourists from the United States to visit China after diplomatic relations were re-established in 1979. They were especially fond of cruises, having taken over 25 of them. Ruby loved all animals, including her childhood horse, Kate, and the many Airedales she owned with her husband Joe. She was a member of the First United Methodist Church in Niagara Falls, NY. Ruby is survived by her nieces, Bonnie Cornell O'Connell and Joan Maulis; nephews-in-law, Michael O'Connell and Wade Roemke; and several great-nieces and great-nephews. Friends may call at HARDISON FUNERAL HOME, N. Fourth & Ridge Streets, Lewiston on Saturday, November 14, from 2:00 to 3:00 pm. Funeral Services will begin at 3:00 PM in the funeral home, with the Rev. Jean Edmister officiating. Entombment in Riverdale Cemetery will be private.
