Obituary of Elizabeth VerHague

Elizabeth VerHague, age 96 formerly of 18th St. in Niagara Falls, NY, died Saturday May 23, 2009 in Mount St. Mary's Hospital in Lewiston, after a long illness. Mrs. VerHague was born August 29, 1912 in Pekin, NY, the daughter of the late Frank E. and Pearl (Powell) Freeman Newman. She was a 1931 graduate of Niagara Falls High School and had lived in Niagara Falls for 80 years. The past few years she was a resident of Fairchild Manor Nursing Home in Lewiston. On July 22, 1939 she married Walter C. VerHague who predeceased her in 1981. Elizabeth was a Personnel Manager, employed by Jenss Dept. Store in Niagara Falls for many years. She then retired from the medical practice of Dr. George D. Berry in Niagara Falls where she was his office secretary for 5 years. Elizabeth was a 55 year member of St. James United Methodist Church in Niagara Falls and a member of St. James Seniors. She loved to bowl and playing cards. She is survived by a son, Gary (Pat) VerHague of Lewiston, a daughter, Donna (Richard) Supensky of Clay, NY; 6 grandchildren, 10 great grandchildren, and 2 great great grandchildren. Elizabeth was predeceased by a grandson, Gary VerHague, Jr. and a brother, Jerauld E. Freeman. Funeral Services will be held Saturday, May 30, at 10:00 AM in St. James United Methodist Church, 4661 Porter Rd., Niagara Falls, with the Rev. Benson Benton officiating. The family will receive friends at the Church from 9:00 to 10:00 am. Burial will follow the services in Niagara Falls Memorial Park Cemetery, Lewiston. In lieu of flowers, Memorials may be made to The Women's & Children's Hospital of Buffalo Foundation, 219 Bryant St., Buffalo, NY 14222 or to St. James United Methodist Church. Arrangements have been entrusted to HARDISON FUNERAL HOME, N. Fourth & Ridge Sts., Lewiston.
