Obituary of William H. Tower

William "Bill" H. Tower, age 77 lifelong resident of Youngstown, died Wednesday October 7, 2015 at his residence under the loving care of his family and Niagara Hospice. Bill was born May 4, 1938 in Niagara Falls, NY, the son of the late John R., Sr. and Margaret (Robbins) Tower. After graduating from Lewiston-Porter High School in 1956 he enlisted in the U.S. Navy, serving until his honorable discharge in 1958. Bill married Audrey (Baker) Tower on December 14, 1963. Together they operated his family's Tower Farms in Youngstown, selling their produce at the Clinton Bailey Market in Buffalo. Bill was a member of the NY Farm Bureau, a member of the Board of Directors of the WNY Apple Growers Assoc., and a former president of the Youngstown Cold Storage Assoc. He was a former Chairman of the Zoning Board of Appeals for the Town of Porter and a longtime member of the First Presbyterian Church of Youngstown. Bill enjoyed cooking, boating, and fishing. He is survived by his wife, Audrey; a daughter, Gretchen Tower of Niagara Falls, NY; a son, David Tower of Youngstown,; two sisters, Peggy (Jim) Shear of Youngstown and Betty (Dan) Cortelli of Canyon Lake , TX; and a sister in law, Mary Tower of Ransomville. He was predeceased by a daughter, Amy Tower and a brother, John R. Tower. Friends may call at HARDISON FUNERAL HOME, 3648 Ransomville Road, Ransomville on Friday from 2 - 4 and 7 - 9 PM. Funeral Services will be held Saturday, October 10, at 11:00 AM in the First Presbyterian Church of Youngstown, 100 Church St., Youngstown, with the Rev. Charles Lamb officiating. Burial with Military Honors will follow in North Ridge Cemetery, Church Rd., Town of Cambria. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Niagara Hospice, 4675 Sunset Dr., Lockport, NY 14094 or to a Charity of one's choice.
