Obituary of Patricia W. Rice

Patricia W. Rice, age 87 of Youngstown, died Monday October 5, 2015 in Niagara Hospice House in Lockport, after a lengthy illness.
Patricia was born May 17, 1928 in Niagara Falls, NY, the daughter of the late O. Floyd and Daisy (Sherman) Wilson, and lived most of her life in Lewiston and Youngstown. She attended local schools in the Falls and graduated from Niagara Falls High School in 1946. She then graduated from SUNY Geneseo, and received Master's Degrees from Buffalo State and the University of Buffalo. Patricia was an Elementary School Teacher with the Lewiston-Porter School District for 36 years.
She had a passion for local history and genealogy. Patricia was actively involved in 24 genealogical societies including the Daughters of 1812, the Daughters of the American Revolution, and Dames of the Magna Carta. She served in numerous state and national positions including president and past president. Patricia had authored a book on the history of Niagara County Schools and had served on the Old Fort Niagara Association Board of Directors. She was also a member and served as President of the Tatler Women's Club in Niagara Falls, and served on the Niagara Falls Salvation Army Board of Directors. Patricia had served as Secretary and was a member of the Vestry of St. Peter's Episcopal Church in Niagara Falls and had attended St. John Episcopal Church in Youngstown and St. Paul Episcopal Church in Lewiston.
On July 19, 1958 she married Donald M. Rice who predeceased her in 1986. Patricia is survived by two daughters, Donna (late Bill) Parrish of Scottsdale, AZ and Nancy (Monty) Waggoner of Port Orchard, WA; two grandchildren and eight great grandchildren. She was predeceased by a grandson, Donovan Parrish.
Friends may call at HARDISON FUNERAL HOME, N. Fourth & Ridge Streets, Lewiston on Friday, October 9, from 5 to 8 pm. Funeral Services and Burial in North Ridge Cemetery, Town of Cambria will be private. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Old Fort Niagara Association, P.O. Box 169, Youngstown, NY 14174 or to Niagara Hospice, 4675 Sunset Dr., Lockport, NY 14094.
