Obituary of Richard A. Jackson

Richard "Dick" A. Jackson, age 84, lifelong resident of Lewiston and Youngstown, died Wednesday, July 22, 2015 in the Niagara Hospice House in Lockport after a lengthy illness.
Dick was born September 5, 1930 in Buffalo, NY, the son of the late Arthur and Florence (Higgins) Jackson McBride. He was a 1949 graduate of the Lewiston Red Brick School and enlisted in the U.S. Air Force on February 8, 1950, prior to the onset of the Korean War. Dick served as a senior aircraft electrician and was honorably discharged with the rank of Staff Sergeant in 1954 . While in the service he married Anne (Scott) Jackson on July 11, 1953.
Dick was employed as an Engineer by the Bell Telephone Company in Buffalo for 25 years, retiring in 1986. He received his training at the Bell Labs in Chicago and at West Point.
He was a communicant of St. Bernard's RC Church in Youngstown and a member of the St. Vincent de Paul Society. He was also a member of the V.F.W. Downriver Post # 7487, the 3F Conservation Club in Lewiston, a life member of the Fort Niagara Association, the NY Telephone Pioneers, and an original member of the Lewiston "River Rats." Dick enjoyed blacksmithing, woodworking, carpentry, and skeet shooting.
He is survived by his wife, Anne; six children, Michael (Lisa) Jackson, Sheri (Ben) Sicoli, Debbie and Timothy Jackson all of Lewiston, Kevin and Colleen Jackson both of Youngstown; ten grandchildren and six great grandchildren. He was predeceased by a brother, Donald "Bud" Jackson.
Friends may call at HARDISON FUNERAL HOME, N. Fourth & Ridge Streets, Lewiston on Friday from 4 - 8 pm. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Saturday, July 25, at 10:00 am in St. Bernard's RC Church, Second & Hinman Sts.,Youngstown, with the Rev. Msgr. Thomas Moran officiating. (Please assemble at Church). Burial with Military Honors will follow in Dickersonville Cemetery, Lewiston. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Niagara Hospice, 4675 Sunset Dr., Lockport, NY 14094.
