Thelma W. Messer, 81, of the Town of Niagara, died unexpectedly on Monday, June 29, 2015. Born in Niagara Falls, NY on May 14, 1934 to the late James A. and Minnie Bell (Ferguson) Messer. Thelma graduated from the former LaSalle High School in 1952 and was a longtime employee of the Carborundum Company from which she retired. After retiring, she moved to Columbus, OH for many years, and it was there that her passion grew in caring for disabled children whom she loved dearly. Thelma was an avid knitter, where she knitted baby blankets to be given to area hospitals in Ohio for the newborn babies. Upon returning to Niagara Falls two years ago, Thelma was very active in the Forestview Church of God where she practiced her faith and regularly read her Bible. Thelma is survived by her siblings, James (Eugenia) Messer of Lewiston; her twin brother, Delmar (Nina) Messer of Arlington, TX; two sisters, Geraldine Messer of North Tonawanda and Linda (Arthur) Atwater of Akron, NY; along with numerous loving nieces, nephews, great-nieces and great-nephews. She was predeceased by a sister, Jacqueline Reedy; and a brother, Joseph Messer. Friends may a call at the HARDISON FUNERAL HOMES, N. Fourth and Ridge Sts., Lewiston on Thursday, July 2nd from 11 AM to 1 PM where the funeral service will begin at 1 PM with Rev. Ronald Maines officiating. Burial will follow in Niagara Falls Memorial Park Cemetery. Memorial donations may be made to the Forestview Church of God, 1259 Saunders Settlement Rd., Niagara Falls, NY 14305.
