Frederick R. Lampman, Sr. age 79 of Wilson, died Thursday January 7, 2010 in the Niagara Falls Memorial Medical Center after a brief illness.
Fred was born December 7, 1930 in Niagara Falls, NY, the son of the late Stafford L. and Mabel (Burtwell) Lampman. He was a lifelong Wilson resident and a 1948 graduate of Wilson High School. A U.S. Navy veteran of the Korean War, he served from January of 1951 until his honorable discharge with the rank of Fire Control Technician 3rd Class in October of 1954. He served aboard the USS Bowers and was the recipient of the National Defense Ribbon, the Good Conduct Medal, and the Navy Occupation Medal. Fred retired in 1993 from the GM Division of Harrison Radiator in Lockport after 42 years of service. He was first employed as a tool and dye maker, and for his last 15 years as a Model Maker for Research & Development. He was the Town Justice for the Town of Wilson for 25 years, until 1997.
Fred was a member of North Ridge United Methodist Church, the Wilson Lion's Club, Ransomville Lodge # 551 F&AM, the American Legion in Little Valley, NY, and the NY State Magistrate's Association. He also was a longtime member and former Treasurer of the Wilson Conservation Club, and an original stockholder of the Willowbrook Golf Course. He enjoyed fishing, hunting, traveling, gardening, fixing and repairing things, but above all he enjoyed being with his family.
On October 6, 1956 he married Shirley J. (Brawn) Lampman who predeceased him on July 11, 2005. He is survived by his children, Frederick R. (Cindy) Lampman, Jr., Dean A. Lampman, Charlene K. (Darin) Higgins, and Michele M. (Richard) Newman all of Wilson; his grandchildren, Frederick, III, and Justin Lampman, Jennifer and Ryan Higgins, Matthew and Miranda Newman, Dean Lampman, Jr., Elizabeth and Renee Allen; two brothers, Gordon (Marlene) Lampman of Louisville, KY and James B. (Jacqueline) Lampman of Lewiston; two sisters, Laurena Jean (the late Duane) Kneeppel of the Town of Cambria and Sharon Carpenter of Etna Green, IN; as well as several nieces and nephews.
Friends may call at HARDISON FUNERAL HOME, 3648 Ransomville Road, Ransomville on Sunday from 2 - 4 and 7 - 9 PM. Funeral Services will be held Monday, January 11, at 11:00 AM in the funeral home, with the Rev. J. Fay Cleveland officiating. Burial with Military Honors will follow in North Ridge Cemetery, Church Rd. Town of Cambria. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Alzheimer's Assoc.
