Obituary of James K. Lafler

James K. "Jim" Lafler, age 58 of Lockport NY, died unexpectedly on Thursday May 21, 2015 at his home in the Town of Cambria.
Jim was born June 4, 1956 in Lockport, the son of the late Gerald O. and Margaret A. (Storey) Lafler. A lifelong resident of the Town of Cambria, Jim was a 1975 graduate of Wilson High School. After graduation he enlisted in the U.S. Army and served from August of 1975 to his honorable discharge in July of 1978. Since 1999 Jim has been employed by CSX Railroad at Frontier Yard in Buffalo, currently as Foreman. He was a member and Secretary of the Brotherhood of Maintenance of Way Employees Union.
Jim enjoyed racing and building Micro Sprint cars. As owner of Lafler Racing, Jim had won over 125 races and ten track championships. He was an avid outdoorsman and had also raised turkeys for many years. He will be greatly missed by his family and many friends.
He is survived by his sisters, Janice Lafler of Wilson, Deborah (Michael) Jordan of Barker, NY, and Peggy Sue (Tharon) Smart of Penn Yan, NY; two nieces, four nephews, and cousins. He was predeceased by a brother, Timothy O. Lafler.
Friends may call at HARDISON FUNERAL HOME, 3648 Ransomville Road, Ransomville on Tuesday May 26, from 3 - 8 pm. A Memorial Service will follow at 8:00 pm in the funeral home, with the Rev. Brad Delp officiating. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Tri-County Racing Club, P.O. Box 42, Caledonia, NY 14423.
