Edward Barbiero, age 87 a resident of Youngstown since 1973, died Thursday May 7, 2015 at his home under the loving care of his family and Niagara Hospice.
Ed was born April 3, 1928 in Brooklyn, NY, the son of the late William and Concetta (DeSanto) Barbiero. A veteran of the Korean Conflict, Ed served in the U.S. Army Air Corps from October of 1950 to his honorable discharge in September of 1952. He was married to Stella (Seminara) Barbiero in 1954 until her passing in 1989. He retired in 1993 as a Bio Medical Engineer from Sister's Hospital in Buffalo after 23 years. Previous to that Ed was employed at Bell Aerospace from 1968 to 1970. He was also received an Associate's Degree from Niagara County Community College in 1979.
He was a communicant of St. Bernard's RC Church in Youngstown. Ed was a talented wood carver, inventor and tinkerer. He also enjoyed remote control airplanes, painting, and was an avid NY Yankee fan.
He is survived by his wife, Christine P. (Janicka) Barbiero whom he married October 9, 1999; his children, Edward J. (Elaine) Barbiero of Youngstown, Robert (Sherri) Barbiero of Lewiston, and Ellen (Edwin) Sanchez of Walden, NY; a brother, George (late Laura) Barbiero of Calabash, NC and a sister, Jeannie (late Sal) Imperatto of Brooklyn, NY; his granddaughters, Danielle, Lauren, Amanda, Brianna, and Alissa; and twin great grandsons.
Friends may call at HARDISON FUNERAL HOME, N. Fourth & Ridge Streets, Lewiston on Monday from 3 to 7 pm. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Tuesday, May 12, at 10:00 am in St. Bernard's RC Church, Hinman and Second Streets Youngstown, with the Rev. Msgr. Thomas Moran officiating. (Please assemble at Church) Burial with Military Honors will follow in Oakland Rural Cemetery, Lake Rd., Youngstown. Memorial contributions may be made to . Food for the Poor, P.O.
