Obituary of Doris E. Ortman

Doris E. Ortman, age 88 of Lewiston, died Thursday April 16, 2015 in Our Lady of Peace Nursing Care Residence in Lewiston, after a lengthy illness. Doris was born May 16, 1926 in Buffalo, NY, the daughter of the late John H. and Muriel C. (Clarke) Rhinehart. She was a 1944 graduate of South Park High School and on August 14, 1948 she married Charles J. Ortman in St. Jude's Episcopal Church in Buffalo. Doris and Charles lived in Pennsylvania from 1960 to 1963 and in New Jersey from 1963 to 1965. They moved to Lewiston in 1968 and the following year Doris began a career as an Administrative Clerk to the 1st, 2nd, & 3rd Level of NY Telephone and then NYNEX in Niagara Falls, NY. She retired in 1989 after 20 years of service. Doris served as Secretary at St. Paul's Episcopal Church in Lewiston for 11 years. Doris enjoyed walking and in her younger years, roller skating. For several years she bowled with the Friday Mixed Bowling Retirement League at Frontier Lanes. She was predeceased by her husband, Charles in 1998. She is survived by two sons, Charles Ortman and Jeffrey (Amy) Ortman both of Lewiston; a sister, Muriel C. Musial and a brother, Paul A. (late Norine) Rhinehart both of West Seneca, NY; a daughter in law, Mary Jane Ortman of Niagara Falls, NY, six grandchildren, five great grandchildren, and several nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by a son, Russell Ortman who died November 14, 2012. A Memorial Service will be held Sunday, April 26, at 2:00 PM in the Niagara Frontier Bible Church, 5287 Bronson Rd. in Lewiston, with the Rev. Thomas Broderick officiating. There will be no prior visitation. Flowers are gratefully declined. Memorials may be made to St. Paul's Episcopal Church, 400 Ridge St., Lewiston, NY 14092.
