Boleslaw "Barney" Salacinski, age 91, formerly of Creek Rd. in Lewiston died Wednesday April 15, 2015 in the Hospice of Palm Beach Co. in West Palm Beach , FL after a brief illness.
Barney was born August 14, 1923 in Niagara Falls, NY, the son of the late Stanislaus and Aniela (Szczepaniak) Salacinski. He was a WW II U.S. Army Veteran serving from 1943 to his honorable discharge with the rank of PFC in 1945. Barney served with the 140 Engineer Depot Co. and took part in the Ardennes, Central Europe, Normandy, Northern France, and Rhineland Campaigns. He was the recipient of the European African Middle Eastern Service Medal and the Good Conduct Medal. On July 3, 1948 he married Eva R. (Huard) Salacinski. They moved to Lewiston in 1962. After Eva's death in 2013 he moved to Florida to be near his son. Barney was a welder employed by Union Carbide in Niagara Falls, NY for 38 years. He enjoyed polka music, hunting, gardening, Las Vegas, dog racing, and bingo.
He is survived by a son, Michael Salacinski of Lake Worth, FL and a granddaughter, Amanda Salacinski, as well as several nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by a son, Mark Salacinski; three sisters, Helen Szostak, Sophie Kowalczyk, and Natalia "Tillie" Adamczyk; and six brothers, Joseph, Thomas, Edward, and Matthew Dominski, Stanley Domin and Leo Saleski. ,
Funeral Services were private in Florida. Barney was laid to rest with his wife in Gate of Heaven Cemetery Mausoleum in Lewiston. Arrangements were entrusted to HARDISON FUNERAL HOME, N. Fourth & Ridge Sts., Lewiston, NY
