Obituary of Julia D. Nicklas
Please share a memory of Julia to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.
Julia D. Nicklas, age 93 of Lewiston, died peacefully Monday April 6, 2015 at home surrounded by her loving family.
Julia was born July 7, 1921 in Niagara Falls, NY, the daughter of the late James and Nora (O'Brien) Fitzgerald. She was married to Gilbert H. Nicklas who predeceased her on October 3, 1981. Julia (Mom, Ma Nitch) was a unique individual in all aspects of life – we say they broke the mould after her. Most who knew her enjoyed her company and her strong beliefs…which were offered up regularly. Her Irish heritage gave her a zest for life, a passion for poetry, history, politics, literature, duplicate bridge, music and dancing. She traveled the world with her little red suitcase fascinated by people and their cultures. You'll be sadly missed but often thought of. Now your travelin' music's playin'…we've got Amen's Corner covered.
She is survived by five daughters, Sheila Mooney of Ransomville, Karin (Michael) Elia of Burt, NY, Jan Dominick (Paul) and Julie Nicklas both of Lewiston, and Debbie (Jack) Bendall of Youngstown; two sons, Mark Nicklas of Youngstown and Neil (Cathy) Nicklas of Roanoke, VA; and 13 grandchildren. Julia was predeceased by two sons, Michael and Brian Nicklas and a daughter, Maureen Nicklas.
The family invites friends to join in a celebration of Julia's life Saturday, April 11 from 11:00 am – 2:00 pm at her home – 628 Mountain View Drive, Lewiston, NY. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Niagara Hospice, 4675 Sunset Dr., Lockport, NY 14094. Arrangements have been entrusted to HARDISON FUNERAL HOME, N. Fourth & Ridge Sts., Lewiston.
