Obituary of Garnet I. McConnaughey

Garnet I. McConnaughey, age 75 of Ransomville, died Saturday February 28, 2015 in Niagara Hospice House in Lockport, after a lengthy illness. Garnet was born June 7, 1939 in Punxsutawney, PA, the daughter of the late Gene and Hazel (Stahlman) Kiehl and has lived in Ransomville the past 20 years. She was a hard working mother who supported her three daughters, often working several jobs to make sure they wanted for nothing. Garnet had waitressed at the Horseshoe Lounge and the Rib Cage Restaurant's in Niagara Falls before working for APP Pharmaceuticals on Grand Island, NY, from which she retired. She was a very active member of the North Ridge United Methodist Church. She taught her children values, to believe in God, that hard work is essential to achieve any goal you have in life, and to leave a place or space better than when you found it. These morals and values continue to be passed on to her grandchildren. Garnet loved gardening and bird watching. Her backyard is lined with bird houses, the Blue Bird being her favorite. She took pride in meticulously maintaining her beautiful home and gardens without assistance. An animal lover, Garnet enjoyed walking her beloved puggle, "Abby, " with her friends. Above all else, Garnet's pride and joy was her grandchildren. In spite of her illness she attended many hockey games and sports contests cheering them on with pride. She is survived by her daughters, Shawn (Steven) Krieger of Ransomville, Dawn McConnaughey (Craig Krieger) of Barker, NY, and Kelly (Tom, Jr.) Gworek of North Tonawanda,; her beloved grandchildren, Ryan Panepinto, Ian Krieger, Kristin Daniels, Nathan and Dylan Gworek; a great grandchild, Cameron Panepinto; a sister, Janet (Kerm) Schrock of Winthrop, Maine a brother in law, Robert Couch of Indiana, PA. She was predeceased by a sister, Marilyn Couch. Friends may call at HARDISON FUNERAL HOME, 3648 Ransomville Road, Ransomville on Thursday from 2 - 4 and 7 - 9 PM. Funeral services will be held Friday, March 6, at 11:00 AM in the North Ridge United Methodist Church, 3930 North Ridge Rd. Town of Cambria, with the Rev. Matthew Worley officiating. Burial will follow in the North Ridge Cemetery, Church Rd. Town of Cambria.
