Obituary of Dianne I. Oberlander

Dianne I. "Dee" Oberlander, age 69 of Youngstown NY, died Thursday February 19, 2015 in Mt. St. Mary's Hospital in Lewiston.
Dee was born December 22, 1945 in Potsdam, NY, the daughter of the late Edgar and Laura (Chittenden) Wagoner. Following her graduation from Wilson High School in 1964 she enlisted in the U.S. Air Force. She was the recipient of numerous medals and commendations; the Meritorious Service Medal ; the Air force Commendation Medal, the Air Force Outstanding Unit Award, the Good Conduct Medal, the National Defense Service Medal, and the Air Force Longevity Service Award Ribbon. After 20 years of service, 11 of which was Foreign Service, Dee retired in October of 1984 with the Rank of Master Sgt. While stationed in Hawaii, Dee married Robert M. "Obie" Oberlander, Jr. on November 20, 1979 in Honolulu.
Dee and Obie returned to Youngstown in 1990 and together they ran the "Farm at the Fork", raising alpacas and horses. Dee also was employed as a Disaster Preparer for the Small Business Administration for 20 years, retiring in 2011. She was a member of Niagara Falls Elks Lodge #346 for the past 18 years; a member of the Kailua American Legion Post #9 in Kailua, HI, and a member of the American Legion Kau-ton Ladies Auxiliary.
Dee also enjoyed spinning and knitting.
She is survived by her husband, Obie; a sister, Claire (Jeffry) Schultz of Ransomville; two brothers, Lawrence Wagoner of Oregon and Steven (Denise) Wagoner of Wilson; as well as many nieces, nephews, great nieces and nephews.
Friends may call at HARDISON FUNERAL HOME, 3648 Ransomville Road, Ransomville on Thursday, February 26, from 5 - 8 pm. Services will be private. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Elks National Foundation, 2750 N. Lakeview Ave., Chicago, IL 60614
