Obituary of Richard J. Kramer

Richard J. Kramer, age 95, formerly of Randall Rd. in Ransomville, died Tuesday January 27, 2015 in the Odd Fellow & Rebekah Health Care Center in Lockport where he has resided since June of last year. Prior to that, he had lived in the Presbyterian Home in Lockport for 3 years. Richard was born September 18, 1919 in the Town of Amherst, NY, the son of the late Jacob P. and Malinda M. (Wurtenberger) Kramer. He was an U.S. Army Veteran of WW II, serving from September of 1941 to his honorable discharge as a Corporal in October of 1945. Richard was a member of the 5th Army Air Force Signal Corp and took part in the Bismarck Archipelago, New Guinea, Philippine Islands, and Southern Philippines campaigns. He was the recipient of the American Defense Service Medal, the Asiatic Pacific Service Medal, the Good Conduct Medal, and the Philippines Liberation Ribbon W/Bronze Star. He married Ruth A. (Stevens) Kramer on November 24, 1951 and they shared their home in Ransomville until Ruth's passing in 2003. Richard worked as an assembler for the RP Adams Co. in Buffalo for 30 years, retiring in 1981. He was a former member of the Newfane Golden Agers and had served as a 4 H leader. He loved raising chickens, gardening and farming and was especially known for the asparagus he grew. Richard also enjoyed leather working. He is survived by his sons, Ray R. (Judy) Kramer of Lockport, and Steven J. Kramer of Newfane; his grandchildren, Malinda (Damian) Rader, Rhonda, Courtney, and Corey Kramer; and his great grandchildren, Bradley and Aiden. He was predeceased by a sister, Margaret Por. Friends may call at HARDISON FUNERAL HOME, 3648 Ransomville Road, Ransomville on Saturday, February 7, from 11 am - 1:30 pm. A Memorial Service followed by Military Honors will begin at 1:30 pm in the funeral home, with the Rev. Charles Lamb officiating. In lieu of flowers, Memorials may be made to the Presbyterian Home, 305 High St., Lockport, NY 14094 or to Roswell Park Cancer Institute, PO Box 631, Buffalo, NY 14240-9856.
